Zulfahmi triumphs despite battles with motorcycle glitches

The mechanical glitches with his machine that he suffered at the British MotoGP still haunts Team AirAsia-Sepang International Circuit rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin at the Circuit van Drenthe in Netherlands.

But his DNF at the British Grand Prix is history as the 18-year old rider finished the race at number 22, (39’29.604) at the Dutch MotoGP, a remarkable feat considering that he suffered a crash towards the end of the 20-minute warm-up session earlier today.

“We hope for him to finish in the top 20, but nevertheless he has improved on his times, which is the main objective. The fact that he gained position and placed 22nd in the race is a bonus,” said SIC CEO Razlan Razali.

“We must not forget this is his first ever experience in the 125cc world championship. He is probably the only rookie that does not have any experience in any championships on a 125cc and he has done extremely well. Fahmi has crashed a few times but he has often proved himself during the race,” he said.

Zulfahmi’s results during the practice sessions yesterday brought the promise that the 18-year old rider’s problems with his bike had been resolved. He had even managed to improved on his time, moving from position number 23 (1’47.026) in the first practice session to number 22 (1’46.674) in the second session.

But problems crept up, and caused the young 125cc MotoGP rider to drop to number 25 in the qualifying round yesterday due to problems with his front suspension.
