VOCM Grand TT 2011: Tankers have a club too!

Published on February 2nd, 2011

Volvo cars have always been perceived as one of ‘em tank cars that’ll make you feel really safe when driving them, particularly because of their muscular features and the sense of solidity they can easily provide. It’s a no question then when it comes to family men, a Volvo would be one of the relevant choices they can propose to their wife (or wives).

So what started as a forum in Autoworld, Volvo Owners Club Malaysia began creating a lot of interest and brought together similar passionate Volvo souls, which include an obsession towards Teh Tarik as well. So in August 2002 (that’s almost a decade ago!), the first meeting was held in Awan Besar R&R, and from then on the club started to grow exponentially.

The club took a lot of turns before it came to be known as what it is today. From meetings in Awan Besar, to Streetformula, to organizing Treasure Hunts, charity drive, the journey was not as smooth as hoped. However, after a lot of discussions, the Committee Members decided to register a company, solely for the purpose of managing the club, under the name of VOCM Management.

Following their tradition of hosting Grand TTs early of the year (January), VOCM hosted a Grand TT on Jan 14 & 15. The gathering was planned to gather VOCM members from all four corners of Malaysia to celebrate new year and meet new members. SportsAgenda, owned by one of VOCM members, sponsored the venue to host the gathering on the 14th.

Lucky draws, individual goody bags, teh tarik, fried noodles and fried chicken were served. Goody bags were sponsored by Meguiar’s, Pennzoil and Ultra Racing.

Total number of Volvo cars present for VOCM 2011 Grand TT was 125 Volvos, ranging from 240 all the way up to S60R, and some of them are modded to the max. One of them is rolling with 400 ponies under the hood, another with Heico bodykits, custom BTCC bodykit, Brembo brakes, and quite a few astonishing modded Volvos more.

The next day (Jan 15), close to 40 Volvos gathered for a photoshoot in Shah Alam Stadium and 21 drivers participated in a Go-Kart race at the Shah Alam Go-Kart track. Next gathering? It’ll be at the Conti Nite Sprint at Pasir Gudang track on Feb 19th where a bunch of Conti will be going at it at the track.

We will be featuring some of VOCM Member’s cars, so hang around if you are a Volvo fan. If you have a Volvo and decided to join the fun, head over to VOCM Website and register yourself.
