UMW Toyota welcomes the locally-assembled Camry Hybrid

After some sneak peaks held by UMW Toyota this past few weeks. UMW Toyota today has finally lifted the wraps off the much anticipated Toyota Camry facelift. The current Toyota Camry which has been launched in Malaysia in June 2012, has been given a thorough facelift. The changes brought on by the facelift include styling changes as well as technical changes to the drivetrain here in Malaysia. Available starting today are 3 different variants with 2 different engine choices which starts from the basic Camry 2.0E, the middle range Camry 2.0G and the newly available here in Malaysia the Camry 2.5 Hybrid. The Camry 2.5 Hybrid is designated as the flagship of the range replacing the old Camry 2.5.


Changes visually revolves around a new face particularly around the front face area with a new upper grille and new headlamp clusters with Daytime Running Lights which on the Camry 2.5 Hybrid gains an auto-leveling and automatic operation of the headlights while the E and G variants make do HID Projector headlamps with auto-leveling function. A new radiator grille is also incorporated in the facelift design as it has 2 types to distinguish between the 2 variants with a lateral fin type for the garden variety 2.0 models and a mesh type for the Camry Hybrid.


The rear design is familiar with no changes but gains LED lighting technology which is available across all variants which includes the rear combination lights as well as the 3rd brake lights. With this implementation, the Camry also gains Emergency Stop Signal starting from the Camry 2.0G and above.


To better match the contenders in its field, the Camry here now comes equip with lots of standard features with the goodies that comes as standard across all variants are dual zone automatic climate control with rear vents, front driver and passenger airbags, push start button with Smart Entry and Start system, Optitron meter combination with 4.2 inch multi-information display, front and rear automatic up/down windows, electric power-retractable with turn lamp signal wing mirrors, wood grain finishing on the dashboard areas, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and BA, 3-point ELR seat belts with Pretensioner and Force Limiter and ISOFIX mounts at the back only for child seats. The differentiation as you go up the range is that the 2.0G model and above gains Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, Hill-start Assist and Emergency Stop Signal and the 2.5 Hybrid gaining Blind Spot Monitoring System, a reverse camera with guidelines that comes equip with Rear Cross Traffic Alert system, 7 airbags with front, side, curtain and knee airbags on the safety front. Inside, 2.0G spec Camry and above gains 8-way powered adjustable front seats with front passenger shoulder switches, cruise control. Specifications that are reserved for the 2.5 Hybrid only are a JBL 10-speaker system, automatic front wipers with sensors, Qi Wireless charging for Qi compatible cellular phones, a 7-inch touchscreen DVD Audio-Video Navigation system, nanoe ioniser for driver, electro chromic rear-view mirror. 2.0 E models have fabric black seats and the 2.0 G and 2.5 Hybrid models gains a black smooth combination leather seats.


The biggest change that is being talked about is the new drivetrain that the new Toyota Camry has under the hood with the 2.0 models gaining a new engine which is the 6AR-FSE with a 1,998cc of displacement that is equipped with VVT-iW technology on the intake side and VVT-I on the exhaust side. This results in an increase horsepower to 167 bhp @6,500 rpm with 199Nm of torque @4,600rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic with Super ECT that has a sequential shifter. Both 2.0 models gain a 215/60 R16 wheels as standard. The 2.5 Hybrid meanwhile is equipped with a 2AR-FXE engine with a displacement of 2,494cc that has a max output of 160 hp @5,700 rpm with 213 Nm of torque @4,500rpm. This engine is coupled with a 143hp and 270Nm of torque electric motor that provides a total system output of 205hp. The 2.5 Hybrid is paired to an E-CVT transmission. The hybrid engine has the ability to switch between the Atkinson cycle and Otto cycle for better management of power and efficiency. Color choices for the Camry are Grey Metallic, Medium Silver Metallic, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic and White Pearl CS


The Camry 2.0E comes at RM149,900, the 2.0G at RM159,900 and the 2.5 Hybrid comes in at the top at RM174,900. All the price is on-the-road with insurance including GST with private registration. The Camry is available with 3 years/100,000km warranty. For the 2.0 models have an option to be upgraded to an aerokit and also the 7-inch audio video entertainment module that is available on the 2.5 Hybrid.
