If experience were to be the deciding element for success at the upcoming Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) happening end of the month, JC Racing, which will be featuring a trio of Malaysia’s most prominent names in motor racing, will undoubtedly be amongst the team to watch at the 14th edition of the prestigious 12-hour endurance.
Fielding former champions Eddie Lew and Eric Yeo, joined by the highly experienced Keifli Othman – well remembered for his sensation victory at the inaugural Proton 300km International Race in 1998, JC Racing would also be supported by an experienced engineering crew led by the highly respected Jacky Ng.
To compete in the Touring Production class, the trio would be driving a fully-modified awesome Honda FD2 machine, which should put them at par with any other cars entered for the class.
“Personally for me, the stiff competition has never been my biggest worry. My biggest fear at the MMER has always been on the car reliability and incidents beyond our control like being hit from behind at the corners and unpredictable manoeuvres by the back-markers. The last few years have not been kind to me.”
“I am really excited to compete again this year together with Eric and Keifli, whom I have known throughout my racing career. Keifli was my partner in 2002 with PERT when we finished second in the open class. Eddie, on the other hand, has always been my closest competitor and it’s nice to have him as a team-mate for a change. We are going for the big prize.” said Eddie, who was an overall winner in 2004 with Honda Malaysia Racing Team and have had multiple class wins.
For Eric, it would be a comeback after two years of inactivity and his main concern would be in getting back that competitive feeling.
Like Eric and Eddie, Keifli has been involved since the first MMER in 2000 though he has not been as successful as his more celebrated teammates.
“The race had grown tremendously and we now have world class drivers including Formula 1 drivers and top international endurances races winners on the grid. That makes the event very special,” he added.
Introduced at the turn of the millennium, the MMER has been SIC’s celebration of the Independence Day and to boost motorsports development in the country with the introduction of an international class motor racing event.
