Toyota moves further forward by giving the popular Vios a stylish & classy facelift

Published on April 16th, 2010

UMW Toyota Motor has just made the compact sedan segment all the more competitive and interesting by unveiling the newly enhanced and improved Toyota Vios. According to UMW Toyota Motor, the new Vios range reinforces the product concept through refreshment in design, in other words, the lifespan of the Vios has just been given an extension thanks to a facelift, and rightly ever so, as it has been one of UMW Toyota Motor’s most successful models in Malaysia.

The Toyota Vios, which incorporates minor changes, will be able to maintain its position as the leading ‘global small stylish sedan’. The word stylish can now be associated with the Vios thanks to the design enhancements which have been made to the Vios’s exterior.

There are more chrome bits now on the Vios, a design cue obviously taken from Toyota’s successful executive sedan, the Camry. The front grille of the Vios as well as the rear boot’s number plate garnish are now all-chromed and shiny.

The front bumper also gets a pair of fog lights for better road illumination and lighting especially at night during bad weather and low visibility conditions. The rims also get more spokes so as to perhaps enable the Vios to have a cleaner and sleeker look apart from being stylish. The rear tailights of the new Vios also differs from that of its predecessor to complement the exterior facelift.

The powerplant and drivetrain for the new and improved Vios remains the same as that of its predecessor. Apart from the changes, the Vios will still be recognized and appreciated for its design, optimum performance, advanced versatility and safety.

The new range is equipped with updated features, and is enhanced to have a refreshing look and appeal on both the interior and exterior. These changes were fueled by the need to make the Vios more desireable and they are in response to the feedback received from UMW Toyota Motor’s much valued Vios owners, as well as its detractors. The new Toyota Vios illustrates Toyota’s continuous commitment to constantly explore ways to accomodate to their current, future and potential customers’ needs and likes.

“The new Toyota Vios, which captures a youthful design, with advanced versatility and safety, coupled with enhanced sporty design for the TRD Sportivo Vios, offers a new experience for future and potential customers. UMW Toyota Motor aims to capture more than 32,000 units of the Vios this year, said UMW Toyota Motor’s top man, Kuah Kock Heng.

Kuah continued by saying, “UMW Toyota Motor is confident that the new enhanced Toyota Vios will be well received and it will continue to grow, making Toyota the top-selling vehicle in the non-national category.”

“Since it was first introduced seven years ago back in May 2003, right up until the end of March this year, UMW Toyota Motor has put out 159,000 units of the Toyota Vios on Malaysian roads. Throughout the years, UMW Toyota Motor has been able to successfully grow the Toyota Vios to match the needs and desires of a lot of Malaysians. UMW Toyota Motor has a broad range of Toyota Vios models to meet a wide range of customers.”

Last year, with the valuable support of its customers, UMW Toyota Motor was able to record an impressive sale of over 29,000 units of Vios models with the Toyota Vios 1.5E being the most favoured model of the entire Vios range. Up till March 2010, more than 7,600 units have been sold so far. When compared to the same period last year, only 6,000 units were sold and this shows that there was a 27% increase in Vios sales. To date, (up till 13 April 2010), there are 2,600 confirmed bookings for the new Vios. This has made the Toyota Vios the most desirable Toyota model in Malaysia, as well as the most affordable as well.

Where the expected sales volume and the new and improved Toyota Vios are concerned, Kuah had this to say, “With the upturn in the economic climate, we aim to sell 2,700 units of the new Vios per month.”

Being UMW Toyota Motor’s top man, it was only right and rather expected that Kuah was the man to launch and unleash the new and improved Toyota Vios onto the Malaysian market. Kuah was accompanied by UMW Toyota Motor’s Deputy Chairman, Takashi Hibi.

Emphasising on the changes, Kuah said, “Safety, performance and affordability are just some of the essential elements, and this is reflected in the Vios 1.5J (M), which was recently proclaimed the winner in the small family car category by Asian Auto – mudah.my Fuel Efficiency Awards 2009 for the ‘Best Fuel Economy in its Class’.”

All the new Toyota Vios will be available at all Toyota showrooms throughout Peninsular Malaysia from now, and from the 23rd of April onwards for Sabah and Sarawak. UMW Toyota Motor currently has 91 sales and after sales outlets including dealers, all throughout Malaysia.
