Toyota Classics 2009 is back! Tickets are available now

Toyota Classics, the annual classical music concert by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMW Toyota Motor) to raise funds for charitable organisations through performances by world-class classical music orchestras, will be bringing the renowned Prague Chamber Orchestra to Malaysian shores for the 2009 Toyota Classics.

The Toyota Classics 2009 will be held at the Auditorium Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam on Friday, 23rd October 2009. The concert will be graced by His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor. This year’s Toyota Classics will showcase the talents of Charles Olivieri-Munroe, conductor for the Prague Chamber Orchestra and Soprano Marie Fajtova. The Prague Chamber Orchestra will be in Malaysia as part of a 19 days and six countries regional tour.

This year’s Toyota Classics will to benefit three charitable organisations: Agathians Shelter, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Persatuan Kebangsaan Autisme Malaysia, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan and Tasputra Perkim, Kuala Lumpur. The target collection from ticket sales and corporate donations for this year’s Toyota Classics is RM350, 000.

Agathians Shelter is an orphanage for boys and was founded in 2003 by a team of young adults. Listed with the Welfare Department as a voluntary, non-profit, multi-religious based organisations, Agathians Shelter is open to all children and teenagers who have been abandoned, neglected, orphaned or abused. The shelter is dependent on public and corporate contributions to support 42 boys.

The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) is a non-profit, non-governmental welfare organisation which was formed in 1986 by a group of parents and professionals. NASOM was registered on the 3rd of March 1987, as a national voluntary charitable organisation and aims at providing education, help, care and protection for people with autism and their family members.

Currently, NASOM has established 14 early intervention programmes and 3 vocational programmes. NASOM Seremban has 14 autistic children and funds are normally raised via fund raising activities.

The Tasputra Perkim was established in the year 1987 by Puan. Kathleen Muna Othman. A government-owned house, receiving RM 1,000 per month grant from Welfare Department, it runs almost entirely on donations and fundraising for 50 physically, visually and mentally challenged children from 3 – 18 years of age.

The Toyota Classics programme, which was launched in 1990, has generated over 19 performances a proceed of RM5.33 million from ticket sales and corporate donations. These proceeds have been donated to 39 charitable organisations and Non-Governmental Organisation comprising orphanages, drug rehabilitation centres, cultural heritage foundations, old folks’ homes, welfare homes, cancer societies and Hospices.

Conceptualised to represent the philanthropic pillar of UMW Toyota Motor’s three Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars, Toyota Classics has through the years introduced world-renowned orchestras such as the New York Symphonic Ensemble, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, both from the United States of America; the Sapporo Symphonic Orchestra of Japan; the National Chamber Orchestra of Toulouse of France; the Century Osaka Orchestra of Japan; the Royal Swedish Chamber Orchestra of Sweden; the Vienna Volksoper Symphony Orchestra of Austria; the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra of Japan; the London Festival Orchestra of England; the Cadaques Orchestra of Spain; the North-east German Philharmonic Orchestra of Germany, Budapest Operetta Theatre Orchestra of Hungary and the Vienna Operetta Orchestra of Austria.
