2014 marked the fourth year of the Renault Megané RS and although many may not realise, the Megané was way overdue for a facelift. Happily however, earlier this year Renault unveiled their facelifted Megane III at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it quickly became something to look forward to here in Malaysia.
Well, without further ado – in conjunction with the Renault Roadshow this weekend, Renault TC Euro Cars officially launched the new facelifted Megane RS 265 earlier today at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Sporting a new frontal fascia; the new Megane RS looks absolutely fresh which according to Renault themselves, this new styling sets to take on even more dynamism of the Megane’s new design identity.
The Megane RS stands as Renault’s best selling vehicle here in Malaysia – and with the launch of the new model, it will be the new star vehicle once again in the line-up. The new design identity promises to add an extra dash of vitality that will further strengthens its appeal to the market. It sports a new bumper and grille featuring an enlarged Renault logo which is set against a gloss black background from a more defined outlook.
At the same time, Renault TC Euro Cars has ditched the ‘Cup’ chassis spec this time around in favour of a more subtle ‘Sport’ chassis option. Aesthetically; the Sport looks undeniably indifferent from the Cup chassis spec however it can be spotted in the details, where the differences stands at the brake rotors which are non-slotted on the exterior and inside, the lightweight Recaro bucket seats are switched with normal but heavily bolstered cushions that are said to be more ‘comfort friendly’.
Of course in the details however – the Sport sits a little higher off the ground than the Cup on the road and packs a more forgiving ride courtesy of different damping rates. More importantly however, the Sport is not fitted with the optional limited slip differential that made the Megane RS such an absolute enthusiasts car here.
What remains – is the lustful 2.0-litre 16 valve 4-cylinder engine that produces 265bhp and 360nm which is good for a naught-to-sixty time of just 6 seconds. Happily too, this new Megane RS265 retains the lovely 6-speed manual transmission which will still keep the cults happy with 3 pedals to play with and for the performance head, the Brembo 4-pot brakes still comes as standard (however without slotted rotors).
As a note, YES the new RS 265 comes with a little less than before. BUT it comes back rewarding the Malaysian market at an absolutely attractive market OTR market price of RM 199,999. That’s a big price revision from the last offering, a figure of nearly RM50k. We think this new offering will make the hot hatch market a little more confusing for the new buyers, as it stands more competitive than ever in the segment.
