Published on June 9th, 2014

Not sure if you’ve noticed – but the legendary British Supercar maker has been on our shores officially for almost a year now! Sime Darby Auto Britannia is the 41st retail location of the brand as part of its expansion programme in Asia Pacific, and in just a short span of time we can see that brand has been successful considering there were zero dealerships in 2011…

Today – McLaren stands as one of the top manufacturers in the industry and with its recent flagship model, the 12C showing a rather heroic response from the Malaysian market… they are proud to present to our shores today, the all-new McLaren 650S!

The 650S is specifically developed to give enthusiast drivers the ultimate in luxury, engagement and excitement, on both road and track. The already sold-out hyper car McLaren P1, which marks the new design language for the McLaren brand, unmistakeably inspires the design of the new 650S.

At first glance, the new 650S looks almost identical to the 12C, and if you look at it head on, it looks like the brand’s Hybrid Hypercar, the McLaren P1. Confusing?

Well, this is a part of McLaren’s way in creating their identity across their range of cars, following their maddest model’s key features. We are sure that you’ve heard all about the car on the internet and youtube, but we ensure you that the new 650S looks the absolute business in the flesh!

And whilst looks might be half the story, the 650S packs more than just a pretty face. Powered by a similar M838T 3.8-litre twin turbo V8, the boffins at McLaren’s engineering department has reworked the heart to produce 641bhp and 680nm of torque. Some might be wondering of the ‘650S’ name matching to the power, but it is rated at 650ps for your clarification.

Naught-to-sixty is dealt with in just 3 seconds flat and all the way to a rated top speed of 207mph. All this power is thrown to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch gearbox for the upmost level of accuracy and speed.

“Malaysian drivers and McLaren enthusiasts expect nothing but the best. Following the success of the 12C and the McLaren P1 here, we’re very excited to be bringing the new pinnacle in high-end luxury supercar offerings to Malaysia”, said Simon Rock, Director at Sime Darby Auto Britannia Sdn Bhd.

Weight had always been a mortal enemy for McLaren, as reducing weight off the car has been an inherited obsession, and this remains the same with the 650S. By utilizing a unique single piece constructed carbon fibre tub as the chassis, which is better known as Mono-Cell, the McLaren 650S has achieved an incredible total dry weight of a mere 1,330kg for Coupe and 1,370kg for Spider.

“An important distinction for us is that many McLaren owners do use their cars every day, and frequently drive hard on track days. The McLaren 650S is designed for both, as the comfort levels rival the very best executive saloons. It really is a no compromise option for the most discerning of individuals who really appreciate the very best things in life,” Rock said.
