Round 6 of the 2010 Super Taikyu Endurance Series at Japan’s mountain circuit, Sendai Highland Raceway was a triumphant one for the PETRONAS Syntium Team. Celebrating the team’s sixth win in a row was the trio of Masataka YanagidaNobuteru Taniguchi and rookie Imran Zaharias Shaharom in the No. 1 BMW Z4M Coupe. Capping off another strong weekend with second place were teammates Tatsuya Kataoka, Fariqe Hairuman and Melvin Moh in the No.28 car.

The result has also helped Yanagida, Taniguchi and Imran in the No. 1 BMW Z4M Coupe secure the 2010 Super Taikyu Endurance Series overall title with one round remaining. Meanwhile, with their six successive podium finishes, the No. 28 BMW Z4M Coupe have also taken overall second place in the championship.

Since becoming the first Malaysian team to take a major endurance series title in 2008, this is the team’s third consecutive title and third 1-2 championship finish in the Japanese endurance series.

David Wong, Team Principal:

“It’s hard to put the right words together to describe this moment. It is a momentous occasion for the PETRONAS Syntium Team. When you look back at what we were up against back in 2007 and the fact that this is a very competitive series; it is an incredible achievement to win three consecutive Super Taikyu Endurance Series titles in a row since 2008. I am extremely proud of what the team, drivers, mechanics and engineers have managed to achieve.

“On top of this, since 2009, our driver line-up has included the young drivers from PETRONAS’ driver development programme. I am very proud of what they have been able to achieve and the role they have played and that they have been able to be a part of a winning team! This year, our development drivers Melvin and Imran have done a tremendous job, performing well beyond expectations and contributing towards taking the title again. Crucially, the senior drivers on the team have also played their part in helping to develop the young drivers over the past two years. They have matured and become very good drivers and the team is proud to have played an important part in the careers. Finally, all this would simply have not been possible without the tremendous encouragement of our partners. On that note, I would like to thank PETRONAS, the Super Taikyu Organisation, YOKOHAMA and all our partners for their continued support.”
