Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club today hosted an event that took Lexus to a whole new market segment with the highly anticipated launch of the compact-crossover, the Lexus NX. Lexus new foray into the compact SUV segment is a welcome addition with Lexus better representing its model into each popular niche which is the compact-crossover.
This compact SUV further complements the big-brother SUV the Lexus RX with its edgy, angular and fashion forward styling complementing the laid-back and family-oriented Lexus RX. Coming straight from Japan, the Lexus NX comes here in 5 trim levels and two engine choices which is a new 2.0 litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine and a sole hybrid option which is a 2.5 litre Atkinson cycle engine.
The 2.0 litre turbocharged engine variant comes in 4 different trims which are the NX200t, NX200t Premium, NX200t Luxury and NX200t F-Sport while the sole hybrid option, the NX300h, is reserved with 1 trim.
Besides the edgy and angular styling which follows the Lexus IS especially at the front, the highlight of this model is its 2.0 litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine which is Lexus first foray into the turbocharging field.
This engine features a combination of liquid-cooled cylinder heads, an integrated 4-to-2 exhaust manifold and that twin-scroll turbo manages to churn out 235hp at 5,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,650 to 4,000 rpm. Power is transmitted to the wheels via an on-demand Dynamic Torque Control AWD system through a Six-speed automatic replete with paddle-shifters.
This combination results in a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h. The 2.5 litre hybrid option is a four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine that generates by itself 153hp and 210 Nm of torque which is further assisted by 141 hp and 270 Nm of torque for the electric motors at the front and 67hp and 139 Nm of torque for the rear ones. Powering the electric motors are of the nickel-metal hydride variety. The power is transferred to all four wheels by means of an eCVT transmission and with this comes a very green top speed of 180 km/h and the 100km/h dash is completed in 9.2 seconds.
In terms of kit on offer it is quite an extensive list as you go up the variants but all variants come as standard are driver and passenger electric seats with the driver getting a memory function with auto reset capabilities, heated and ventilated front seats, automatic wipers, touch control front interior lights, electric steering adjustments which has tilt and telescopic range with paddle shifters and LED fog lamps and cornering lamps that is only absent on the base NX200t variant.
Additional items available as you go up the range are a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Audio system and 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, an electrically powered folding rear seats which splits into a 60:40 setup, powered rear boot, Qi wireless charging in the centre armrest, sunroof with slide and tilt function, panoramic roof as in the case of the 200t F-Sport. Safety features available across the board are eight airbags which includes driver’s knee airbag and front passenger cushion airbag, ABS, EBD with BA and vehicle stability control.

The NX200t F-Sport has a special mention as it is equipped with perforated leather setup with red contrast stitching on the seats and gear-shifters, exclusive F-Sport instrument cluster with turbo meter and aluminium pedals and scuff plates and a full F Sport exterior body kit completes the cosmetic difference from the rest.
