A new hatchling has just zoomed into town as Suzuki Automobile Sdn Bhd introduced today a fresh new variant of their ever-popular hatchback, the new Suzuki Swift RS. The hatchling joined Suzuki’s illustrious stable of Swift’s available in Malaysia with the new variant slotting between the Swift GLX and the crème de la crème of fun, small hot hatches, which is the Suzuki Swift Sport.
Although it may improve in kit but make no mistake as this Swift RS is no RennSport reincarnate. But is just a fashion makeover to woo trendy and youthful drivers in search for something that would reflect their vibrant personality. So make no mistake that this variant of the Swift is meant to gain some street cred and not burn threads.
The Suzuki Swift RS or Suzuki Swift Reinvent Style is available in any other colour as long as it is white with contrasting black and red gradient rooftop, side body decals all around, stylish red-lining on the body-kit with an additional back spoiler, LED Day-Running-Light on the front bumpers, 16-inch ‘gun metal’ aluminium-alloy wheels and the RS emblem just to give the added perceived horsepower advantage.
To further differentiate the Swift RS externally from the bread-and-butter Swift GL and GLX is the inclusion of all-around disc brakes with the fronts getting a ventilated discs while the rears are now solid discs to complement the kit.
Inside, the black and red sporty leather seats that are comfortable with the eclectic body sizes available in our country further accentuate the makeover with contrasting red stripes adorning the side-door trims which are in leather.
To keep up with the tech-savvy requirements of today’s youth, the variant also features a 2-DIN touch-screen audio system that has a True-Mirroring feature replete with built-in GPS navigation system with reverse camera so you can’t get lost and Bluetooth system with microphones embedded into the interior for a hands-free affair at the wheel.
The engine is a carryover from the GL and GLX models so you won’t win any traffic light duels here with the familiar 1.4 liter KV14B being used in this variant. This particular engine has a maximum output of 95 PS (70KW) at 6,000 RPM and a maximum torque of 130 NM at 4,000 RPM.
Far cry from the recently launched Koenigsegg but at least you could last longer in between fuel stops. The standard features are as per the normal spec in the GLX with LCD display dashboard, tilt/telescopic steering with audio switches, auto climate control, Keyless Entry with Push Start button system, Dual front SRS airbags, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist function.
The Swift RS is available with only an automatic transmission at the price of RM79,388.00 On-The-Road price without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia, RM85,140.00 for Sarawak and RM85,124.00 for Sabah. The Swift RS comes with 3 years warranty or 100,000 km (whichever comes first), with the exception of the RS rooftop sticker, which has a 2-year warranty.
