The promoter and organizer of the 2010 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix – is offering 5,000 tickets at only RM10 for fans to catch the race live at Sepang Circuit this Sunday.

Offered only for Race Day attendance on October 10, the seating will be at Hillstand B area, which provides vantage viewing of the South Track including full view of the back straight and Turns 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, SIC Chief Executive Officer Razlan Razali said in a statement today.

“Only 5,000 tickets will be offered and we are closing the sale for these seats on Friday … so, whichever comes first … we will stop sale immediately if these promo tickets are all taken up even before Friday,” said Razlan, who suggested interested fans to purchase the tickets early.

These promotional tickets, however, could only be purchased at SIC ticket counter at the circuit, SIC Ticketing Office at KL Sentral or at the Malaysian GP promo booth in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and at the PETRONAS Malaysian GP Carnival promo at KLCC, he added.

Sepang will host Round 15 of MotoGP world championship from October 8 to 10 and are expecting a turnout of more than 120,000 fans for the weekend including 60,000-plus fans for Race Day. Entry for Friday is free at the Main Grandstand. Last year, the event recorded its highest Race Day attendance in its 19-year history with 59,206 spectators.

“We received plenty of requests for us to open the hillstands. Our original plan this year was to have the fans concentrated at the Main Grandstand and the K1 Grandstand so that they can enjoy all the activities and programmes which are centred there and our Welcome Centre. But, we received plenty of enquiries and requests about the hillstands… many preferred the casual atmosphere at the breezy hillside. Taking into account all aspects, we decided to open Hillstand B as it has direct access to the Welcome Centre where there would be plenty of F&B areas and activities for the fans,” he said.

According to Razlan, the decision was made in anticipation of a full turnout at the three Grandstands – the 30,000 seater Main Grandstand, the K1 Grandstand, which has a capacity of 11,500 and the F Grandstands. Tickets at the Main Grandstand are priced at RM100 while seats at K1 Grandstand are sold at RM60.

For the 2010 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, the organizer has turned the Welcome Centre as a shopping paradise for motor racing fans; offering a wide spread of motorsports merchandise and apparels, performance parts and bike accessories as well as racing helmets and even bikes on sale for the fans.

Among the prominent booths are the HJC Corporation, which would be displaying their racing helmets; PETRONAS Motorsports, Naza Ducati, Kawasaki, KTM and GIVI with their host of exclusive merchandise and apparels. Fans would also be spoilt for choice for food with prominent restaurant chains like KFC, Ayamas, Pizza Hut, A&W, Serai Sate, Gloria Jane, Secret Recipe and Desert Bar all having their outlets at the event.

Tickets at Grandstand F, which have a capacity of 7,000 spectators and faces directly Turns 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 with good view on the back of the starting grid, are sold at RM30. For spectators at the F Grand stand, a separate activity area would be opened for to have an enjoyable experience at the circuit.

Unlike entry to the Main Grandstand, K1 Grandstand and F Grandstand, fans would be allowed to bring their own food to Hillstand B to enjoy the race.

“There’s no frills… fans can bring in their picnic mat, picnic basket with food and drinks. Children under seven years old can enter for free but must be accompanies by their parents or adults with tickets. Consider this as our present in celebrating the 20th edition of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix this year. We have plenty of support from the fans and we are doing this to say thank you,” said Razlan.
