Serious talents of IRACE Motorsport

Published on October 12th, 2010

Starting something can be tough; it is a known fact. Starting something without guidance, without anyone stepping up to teach or providing guideline, well, that’s even tougher. To talented souls like Akash and Rahul, who are barely thirteen and fourteen, guidance from friend and mentor Imran Zaharias Shahrom made almost all possibilities reachable.

You see, Imran is a professional race driver racing for Petronas Syntium Team, driving the BMW Z4M #28 (one of the BMW Z4M we featured during MMER recently) and the IRACE Motorsport was created solely to sharpen the two boys’ karting skills.

IRACE Motorsport had recently participated in Rotax Max Challenge of which the last round was held in Sepang Go-kart circuit. Akash Neil Nandy won the second place in the overall Junior Max Malaysia championship with just a point difference to the leader, while Rahul won the third place overall in the same category. Akash also was the only driver who won two rounds of different races in Rotax Max Challenge.

The team, although was only created in February this year, has been scoring some serious points and aiming for serious goals in the next few years. Akash will be going to Italy to compete in the World Championship in mid-November 2010 and Rahul will be trying for Petronas Formula Xperience (PFX) next year as well as the Senior category in karting. Akash will have to wait for a few years more to try to enter PFX as he is still two years below the minimum age requirement.

Rahul

Akash and Rahul are not exactly newbies in the karting scene, but both testified to Imran’s guidance to becoming a major boost in their karting experience.

“Last year, it was quite hazy and bleak. Since Imran came into the picture and showed us a thing or two, I began to improve and everything became better. Without his help, I won’t be enjoying victory after victory. It’s a real good feeling, and this is a very good experience!” said Akash.

“Next year, it’ll be outside Malaysia for me. I’ll be competing in the World Championship in Italy. I’ll be karting inside and outside Malaysia, and I’m looking forward for PFX,” he finished.

“Good race, good experience, and a whole lot of help from Imran. I’ll be carting in the Senior category next year and I’ll also be trying for PFX. For now, I’m going to take a step at a time, and see what comes my way. It’ll be good,” said Rahul.

“These kids are the way I give back to motorsport. I thank Petronas for developing me, for giving me the opportunity to try. I am not keeping the knowledge and experience I’ve gathered over the years to myself. This is the time for me to share, and these two kids have the talent for it. I want them to have the opportunity to try too,” explained Imran.

“It’s a simple lesson; the faster you go the more you learn. I want to bring them to a much higher level when compared to other drivers. We’ll be concentrating on Rahul for the Senior category while Akash focuses on the World Championship. Do you know that Akash is the youngest ever driver to compete in the world championship?

“This is not open to other talents. IRACE is specific to Rahul and Akash. After all, IRACE is named after Imran, Rahul and Akash,” finished Imran.
