Being one of the leading manufacturers, it’s a must for Mercedes-Benz to enhance their product in any means possible. With owners and passengers’ safety in mind, the S400 Hybrid called Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESF in German) was built by Mercedes-Benz’s safety technology department.
One of the highlights is the braking bag, which operates as an air brake and a support respectively in the event of accident.
As the PRE-SAFE system detects a crash in an inevitable situation, it will deploy an airbag located in the vehicle right above the front axle carrier. This will thrust a panel down forcefully to the ground, raising the vehicle up 8cm, reducing dive which subsequently will slows the car down thanks to friction drag and aerodynamic.
The Mercedes-Benz ESF S400 will be displayed at the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles conference on June 15 in Stuttgart. Check out the video for a better understanding as seeing is believing.
