RM406, 728 raised at the 2009 Toyota Classics Concert

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMW Toyota Motor), the assembler, marketer and distributor of Toyota automobile passenger cars and commercial vehicles, today presented a total of RM407, 728 to four charity homes during a cheque presentation ceremony at its headquarters in Shah Alam.

The funds, raised from ticket sales and corporate donations for the 2009 Toyota Classics concert, were presented to the Tasputra Perkim, Kuala Lumpur, The National Autism of Malaysia, Seremban, Agathians Shelter, Petaling Jaya and Shelter Home for Children, Petaling Jaya. 

Mr. Kuah Kock Heng, President, UMW Toyota Motor said, “As a responsible corporate citizen in this country, we have been playing and will continue to play an active role in contributing and giving back to the society in which we conduct our business. This is not just a statement but also a commitment from us at UMW Toyota Motor. Over the years, the Toyota Classics has been the perfect channel for us to demonstrate our commitment.”

“Cumulatively, UMW Toyota Motor has raised and donated more than RM5.7 million to 43 various charity organisations since the first Toyota Classics was held in 1990,” he added.

From the accumulative sum of RM407, 728, The Tasputra Perkim, Kuala Lumpur will receive RM 120,728, which will be used for their single story building to house the art and music therapy classes. Once completed, the single story building will be used to help develop the disadvantaged youths’ skills confidence, self-esteem, character, skill competencies, which will assist them when interacting with their peers and society at large.

The National Autism Society of Malaysia, Seremban will receive a total of RM100, 000 to set-up a snoezelen room and sensory integration equipment which will benefit children with sensory, cognitive and physical abilities. It provides fun, recreational and multi-sensory environment for children with disabilities that provides stimulation and relaxation through the use of smell, touch, sound, colour and light.

The third beneficiary, Agathians Shelter, Petaling Jaya will receive RM 106,000 to expand their facilities such as rehabilitation classes, resource center and more study rooms to accommodate the increasing number of children and teenagers who have been abandoned, neglected or orphaned. The fourth beneficiary, Shelter Home for Children, Petaling Jaya who received RM81, 000 will set-up a refugee center that provides medical and educational services to refugee children. 

The Toyota Classics concerts – which are performances by world-renowned orchestras – were conceptualised under the Philanthropic pillar of UMW Toyota Motors’ three pillars of CSR to raise funds for charitable organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The other two pillars are Road Safety and Environment.
