REHYBRID THEORY

Published on April 3rd, 2013

Few years back, when we mention the electric car or something almost like it, which we call the hybrid, it was always the lame ones that came to mind. Simply because the first few of its kind, looked rather fishy or like a fish itself. Unpleasant looking and slow, almost had the same weak appeal that the solar powered cars are getting from the grease junkies. But all that has change over the years where enthusiasts gave their input through modifications and tune ups meant for tree huggers.

It is none other than in Japan that they are crazy enough to not let this Priuses, Insights or Leaves alone. There are a few challenges that made this possible. The first was to get it run faster. Well, for the hybrids that is. Hybrids runs on the power from the combustion engine with the help of the electric motor. What most of the tuners did was turning up the power output from the petrol engine alone. Some went the extra mile to have the electric motor cranking more wattage and power. So the future of  these fast tree huggers is pretty bright to say the least. As proof, the Honda CRZ and Insight, the Toyota Prius and the Nissan Leaf have their touring car versions ready for their flagship races.

And not forgetting the exterior design, body kits for these cars has been improved tenfolds. Check this one out. Shot within the vicinity of the Tokyo Auto Salon car park, stanced and sitting pretty. As though it knew that we are not going to let it go unshot. So, for you hybrid owners here in Malaysia, we susggest that you follow suit and go all out in modding your hybrids. Do not feel shy about it. Do not feel threatened by your petrol or diesel counterparts. Just go crazy like your Japanese tuning buddies. Enjoy the inspirational pictures of this modded Prius.
