In the pursuit of perfection, Lexus Malaysia has introduced the facelifted model of its flagship LS460L model whilst adding a new version in the from of the LS460 Sport to inject some excitement into the uber-luxury echelons of motoring.

All in all, there are now three different variants of the LS460 series available locally. The long-wheel base (LWB) LS460L now comes in 4-seater and 5-seater guises while the LS460 Sport is an evolution from the previous LS460 5-seater but with the addition of performance bits and pieces without sacrificing on the refinement aspect.

“The new Lexus LS460 triumphs in safety, comfort and convenience against its competitors with enhanced features. Lexus Malaysia will now introduce the new LS460L 5-seater, as it is the preference of the Malaysian market,” said Harry Loo, Director of Lexus Malaysia, during the launch.

Cosmetically speaking, different grilles set the Sport version apart from the LWB variant with the Sport spec is blessed with 19-inch wheels and wider rubbers compared to the 18-inchers on the LWB model.

The Sport version also gets lip spoilers on the front and rear as well as side skirts to play up on the sporty image its been shouldered with to project.

It’s a colourful affair for the exterior with 10 options on the colour swatches that have been enhanced with anti-scratch nanotechnology polymer to maintain and restore the initial beauty of the coating.

The interior has been designed to put First Class cabins to shame and it does that with aplomb. The lines of the interior emphasize the spaciousness and tastefully placed bits of aluminium and woodgrain throughout truly bring out the luxurious feel.

While the LWB version gets four choices of interior shades, the Sport version only gets three but with an exclusive option in Black Saddle Tan.

Convenience is par and parcel of luxury, hence the strategic placement of select control switches are placed on the steering wheel. This includes the electronic parking brake as well.

The devil is in the detail and Lexus know this better than anybody in the business. The air-conditioning system utilizes a multitude of well-placed vents to circulate the air while infrared sensors monitors the rear occupants body temperature and adjusts the air temperature accordingly.

Music soothes the high-powered CEO, the savage beast of the Lexus clientele and with a Mark Levinson 19-speaker sound system, there will not be any ravaging going on in the car. Just to be safe though, the Ottoman reclining chair in the rear-left has been maintained.

Motivation is courtesy of the same 4.6-liter 32V V8 DOHC engine with Dual VVT-iE found in the previous model but with some minor enhancements such as a lighter electric motor that activates the Dual VVT-iE and it now meets the more stringent Euro5 emission requirements.

Power figures stand at [email protected],400rpm and 492Nm of [email protected],100rpm. Connecting engine and wheels is the world’s first 8-speed automatic transmission that gives the car a fine balance in fuel consumption and performance.

Air suspension at all four corners absorb the imperfections of local roads with the Sport model getting a firmer ride and thicker stabilizer bars to improve handling.

Lastly but certainly not least, the Sport model, although not more powerful than its LWB brethren, gets 6-pot Brembo brakes up front to reign in the speed during spirited drives and paddle-shifters for quicker swapping of cogs.

Luxury comes with lofty price tags and the Lexus is no different. The LS460L will set you back a cool RM851,135.50 (OTR w/insurance) while the LS460 Sport goes for RM738,275.50 (OTR w/insurance).

“Lexus Malaysia will continue to strengthen its brand presence. Year 2007-2009 is the first phase of the Lexus Malaysia brand, now we are entering the second phase of Lexus Business Development,” said Kuah Kock Heng, President of Lexus Malaysia.

Indeed, the figures suggest a strong growth for the brand this year as last year saw them pushing over 300 units with 226 of them being the RX350. This year, coupled with a newly opened Lexus 3S center in Penang and a soon to-be-opened Lexus 3S center in Johor during the later part of the year, looks to be a good year and their sales target of around 400 units looks to be well within grasp.

The suspension can be switched between soft “Normal”, firmer “Sport” and firm with no traction control “Sport +”. The trio of settings were a good spread – “Normal” was ultra comfortable for long cruises like my drive to Orkney while “Sport” firms up and sharpens the Z4’s feel on twisty single trackers without rattling your fillings.
