Ready, Set… DRIFT!

It’s finally time to get your drift on this weekend as at long last Malaysia has got its own leg of the Goodyear Formula Drift Series and to top it all off with the most number of participants thus far at 53 drivers.

The Asian leg of the series finally spins to our shores after completing the earlier legs at neighbouring Thailand and Singapore.

“It’s truly a proud moment for us to have such a sizeable number of drivers participating in the the Goodyear Formula Drift Malaysia. I am pleased to announce that there are more than 25 foreign participants and Goodyear has brought all its 17 drivers from across the region. This is the first time that all Goodyear drivers are competing at one event,” said Richard Fleming, Managing Director, Goodyear Asean.

The usual Goodyear suspects such as New Zealander ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddet and Japanese Ryuji Miki will be thrusting their contrastingly powered Mazde RX-7’s sideways while the Malaysian contingent can call on the husband and wife team of Ariff Johanis and Jane Abdullah together with Michael Gan, Johan Norman and Ee Yoong Cherng.

“The response from drift enthusiasts locally and around the region has been steadily increasing with the culminating event of the season to be hosted this weekend,” added Nasution Abdul Rahman, Managing Director of Goodyear Malaysia.

Global competitions such as this is exactly the stage that Goodyear intends to demonstrate the performance of its tyres and all the Goodyear Racing Team cars will be burning some quality Goodyear Eagle RS Sport and Eagle Revspec RS-02 during the event. The advance features in the tyres will allow the drivers more precise control over their machines as they attack the layout and try to produce the best lines possible.

Just to recap in case you’re just coming out of that rock you’ve been living under, the Malaysian leg of the Goodyear Formula Drift Series will be underway this weekend (19-20 December 2009) at the MAEPS (Malaysian Agro-Exposition Park Serdang).

So boys and girls, if you intend to end the year on a high of burning rubber and sick drift machines you better be there or be square. For more information about the event in general and ticketing hit http://www.formuladrift.com.my/.
