Competitiveness outweighed a very difficult weekend for proton at Rally of Scotland as the Satria Neo S2000 drove to its best performance yet in the 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC).

The Satria Neo S2000 ran as high as fourth overall in the three day rally in the company of the IRC’s top contenders and came within 1.2 seconds of claiming its first stage win in the championship.

The uncertainties of rallying and the element of luck however, conspired against the team dealing a serious blow to the efforts of drivers Alister Mcrae and PG Andersson whose charge into the top 10 came to an end with retirements.

A rock damaged the oil sump of Alister Mc Rae’s car while Andersson’s valiant drive to fourth overall in the opening stages of the rally was met with an electrical problem which was subsequently repaired but caused him to incur a time penalty. Andersson fought back from 12th to within the top 10 but retired with only a few more stages left to contest after a broken driveshaft damaged the crank sensor which stopped the engine.

“We have achieved a great deal in the IRC particularly in making huge inroads into the continuous development of the Satria Neo S2000. Mcrae, Andersson and our two other drivers Giandomenico Basso and Chris Atkinson have contributed enormously to advancing the development of the car over the last 10 months and this has been evident in competition.”

Our success in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship is testimony of the development gained on the difficult and competitive rallies in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
