Proton all prepared for Rally Indonesia

Published on October 2nd, 2009

Proton has just unveiled its Super2000 Satria Neo rally car to the Indonesian media in Proton showroom in Makassar, Indonesia. They have also completed the shakedown of the Neo S2000 right before the start of Rally Indonesia on the weekend, with new driver line-up Alister McRae and Bill Hayes.

“It’s a real honour for me to have the opportunity to drive for a new manufacturer like Proton.” said Alister McRae.

“We’ve had a good shakedown today and are happy with the performance of the car. The conditions are very hot and dusty, but we’re definitely looking forward to the challenge during the weekend and will give it our best.” he added.

The team will put the car on continuous strain for over 222km on the rally weekend. The stages in Makassar winds its way through the sugarcane plantations of Takalar which have become a hallmark of Rally Indonesia. The participants will be going through some very hot and dusty conditions, add that along with the fireproof suits and the cabin temperature reaching 50 degrees celcius, I bet the occupants will be wishing they’re driving naked.

The Proton Satria Neo S2000 continues to climb the ladder with pace and reliability, but with more development to come, you can expect better improvements on the Neo S2000. Who knows, we might be having a rally-spec production Neo to be made available in the future, complete with 4-wheel drive system and turbocharged, but that’s wishful thinking.
