PROTON Holdings Berhad confirmed its continuous support towards Le Tour De Langkawi 2011 (LTDL 2011) as the Official Car Provider of the event with a mock-key and Blue Jersey presentation ceremony held at the PROTON Centre of Excellence.

The announcement by PROTON was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar Sdn. Bhd En. Mohamad Shukor Ibrahim. Also present at the ceremony was En. Mohamed bin Salleh, the Chief Executive Officer of Le Tour De Langkawi 2011.

During the ceremony, En. Mohamad Salleh also presented the Blue Jersey – the official jersey for the winners of the LTDL 2011 ‘Sprint’ category to En. Mohamad Shukor. PROTON will be given the honor to present the Blue Jersey to the winners of the ‘Sprint’ category at various designated stages throughout the race.

As the Official Car Provider of LTDL 2011, PROTON will be sponsoring 160 units of various Proton cars to be used during the event as well as a list of exclusive PROTON merchandise. The cars will be used by the race officers, team managers, organizing committee members of the LTDL 2011 and the Cavalcade Convoy procession throughout the race. As part of the sponsorship, PROTON will also be providing technical assistance for the sponsored cars (in case of breakdowns) as well as the maintenance of the cars. In line with this purpose, approximately 50 PROTON personnel comprising technical experts, drivers for the Cavalcade Convoy and other representatives of PROTON will be on stand-by to provide assistance throughout the event.

“PROTON has been an ardent supporter of the LTDL event series ever since its first inception in 1996 and throughout the years, PROTON has been proud to provide its cars and other sponsorship to ensure the success of the events,” said En. Mohamad Shukor.

The long-standing co-operation between the LTDL series and many sponsors like PROTON has certainly contributed towards the continued success of the event and the race being elevated and maintained at its current 2.HC status by the Union Cycliste Internationale or the UCI.

“LTDL 2011 will see the continuous involvement and commitment of the national car manufacturer to the event and is a reflection of PROTON’s readiness to support such a significant event for Malaysia. I am positive that the cars will be put to good use throughout the event. I am also proud to announce that we will also have our homegrown MPV, the Exora and Lotus Elise taking part in the Cavalcade Convoy procession throughout the race. That should be something interesting for the spectators,” added En. Mohamad Shukor.

Le Tour de Langkawi 2011 is the 16th edition of the internationally-acclaimed cycling tour and is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Malaysian National Cycling Federation. The race is scheduled to run through 10 stages across the country from 23rd January to the 1st February 2011.
