New platform for talents in mud-splattering

If they can have wannabe singers and hosts and bands and all the other what nots attending auditions to prove their worth, I guess you can do so in the mud and dirt section of Motorsports, as well.

GSR Motorsports and The Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia launched two development program to channel the spirit of splattering cars with mud, and to bring up young talents in Motorsports. UMW Pennzoil Distributors Sdn Bhd  is also involved in the program as the title sponsor.

The first program is the KBS-Pennzoil-AAM Malaysian Rally Sprint Championship and will start rolling through mud on the 15th and 16 of May 2010, in Sepang, in conjunction with the Hari Belia Negara celebration, before roling on to Terengganu, Melaka and Johor for the subsequent rounds.

The organiser has also launched the 1Belia 1Malaysia Rally Team with the objective of identifying young talents, which consist of drivers, navigators and support personnel, with passion for mud-splattering mayhem.

“What is important to note is that the championship is not solely about developing drivers and co-drivers but a talented pool of motorsports mechanics, technicians, officials and support crew,” said Dato’ Ahmad Shabery, Minister of Youth and Sport.

“The championship is envisaged at integrating both experienced and junior drivers, creating an environment which not only promotes greater competitiveness but provides an ideal platform for the sharing of knowledge and experience int he sport,” said Gunaseelan Rajoo, GSR Motorsports’ Managing Director.

Local community will also be given the chance to get themselves involved as the organiser will invite willing youth to be directly involved as supporting officials and to be part of the crew.

On the 1Belia 1Malaysian Rally Team, Gunaseelan said 10 young drivers and 10 co-drivers will spearhead the team’s challenge. The shortlisted participants were selected based on their performance in various club-level events held over the last two years since GSR Motorsports first embarked on a junior rally development program in collaboration with UMW Pennzoil Distributors.

AAM Chairman Yang Mulia Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha welcomed the staging of the KBS-Pennzoil-AAM Malaysian Rally Sprint Championship, stating that as the national governing body for motorsports in Malaysia, AAM would extend its guidance and assistance to ensure that the event can effectively fulfill its objective of developing the sport.

The championship will start in Sepang (15-16 May), followed by Kemaman, Terengganu (31 July – 1 August), Melaka (25-26 September) and will end in Johor (13-14 November).
