New pick of the Picanto

Published on October 29th, 2009

A refreshed Kia Picanto has been unveiled for the local market with a sharper facade that will surely see it build on its success as Kia’s best selling model wit over 867,533 units sold worldwide.

On the exterior, the face lifted Picanto sees a friendlier face with a cuter headlight design and a blacked out hexagonal mesh grille while the rear benefits from a lip spoiler and refreshed circular tail lights.

As a finishing touch, the wing mirrors are now mounted with LED indicators to stylishly raise safety.

Step inside and the positive overtones flow on with a retrofitted USB drive in the stereo head unit that is available in the higher spec model. Space is not an issue as well and for additional cargo, the rear seats can be folded to provide 882-liters of luggage space.

Once again safety is proved paramount with dual airbags for the front occupants but at the cost of the higher spec model.

Motivation for this cute compact is still provided by the reliable 1.1-liter SOHC 12V four-banger mated to a 4-speed slushbox.

“The Picanto is an attractive alternative in the A-segment. We have identified the needs of households for a practical yet stylish vehicle, perfect for city use. The moderately priced Picanto is aimed at interested customers looking for a second car,” enthused SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, Chief Executive Officer of Naza Kia Sdn Bhd.

If you are wondering how moderately priced the Picanto is, wrap your fingers around RM44,500.00 for the lower spec Picanto LS and RM46,800.00 for the higher spec Picanto EX.

The extra RM2,300 nets you 15-inch alloy wheels, dual front airbags and the USB-enabled stereo head unit among other cosmetic enhancements.

Naza Kia Sdn Bhd are extremely optimistic about the Picanto and are targeting monthly sales of 500 units.

“Naza Kia Sdn Bhd aims to drive Kia’s presence in Malaysia and we are confident about our partnership and support given to us. We look forward to the launch of more models this year and next. 2010 will see a new emergence of Kia vehicles as we will be introducing a four by four model, a C-segment sports car and several other new models,” added Nasarudin.
