Navara now with 6-speed tranny

Published on November 6th, 2009

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) today introduced the 6-speed manual transmission Navara as an addition to the Navara 5-speed auto transmission in Malaysia.

Touted as the “Mother of all Trucks” in Malaysia, the Navara has already achieved a high degree of market acceptance and is recognised as the most powerful Sports Utility Truck (SUT) in terms of maximum torque and horsepower since its launch in November 2008. On top of garnering several prestigious awards across the world, the Nissan Navara has just been announced as the “Winner – Pick-up Category” by Autocar Asean Car of The Year Awards 2009 in Malaysia. The Navara also captured Malaysia’s Best Value for Money Pickup Truck at The Asian Auto-VCA Auto Industry Awards 2009, due to its combination of toughness, off-road capabilities and comfort – the traits of the Navara that are globally renowned in over 160 countries.

This New Navara variant is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission that is smoother and more positive in feel, giving more precise and satisfying gear engagement. It also incorporates a ‘tall’ final drive ratio which improves fuel efficiency.

The Navara 6M/T variant is mated to the same powerful YD25DDTi common-rail direct injection diesel engine as found in the 5-speed auto variant. This engine delivers an industry-leading 174ps and maximum torque of 403Nm by adopting a variable nozzle turbocharger with intercooler.  Additionally, an engine balancer shaft system is employed for superior Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH) suppression performance.

The new variant also features “Shift-on-the-Fly” 4WD system which is electronically-controlled and a Limited Slip Differential (LSD). This system enables shifting between 2WD and 4WD with the use of a dial without having to stop the vehicle as long as the vehicle is travelling at less than 100km/h. The LSD optimizes the torque balance between the left and right wheels which improves drivability and stability during cornering and on slippery terrains.

The Navara 6M/T SE (Safety Edition) is fitted with dual front SRS airbags to further protect occupants in a frontal collision, and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) to enable better manoeuvrability around obstacles on the road and quicker, safer stops in all conditions.

“Besides being the only pickup with 6-speed manual transmission in Malaysia, the Navara 6M/T variant comes very competitively equipped and priced, and this new Navara variant will be very appealing to pickup truck customers looking for power and off-road ability matched with good looks and comfort.” said Dato’ Dr Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd at the media launch in Nissan showroom (Kota Kinabalu) today.

“The Navara 5A/T has been very well received since its introduction into Malaysia last November and it makes perfect sense to introduce the Navara 6M/T now as an additional variant to increase market opportunities,” added En Azman Badrillah, Director of Auto Dunia Sdn Bhd (ADSB).

The Navara 6M/T variant is fully imported and manufactured as a completely built-up unit from Nissan Motor Thailand.  Brilliant White is now offered for the Navara 6M/T as a new exterior body colour alongside Supreme Black, Tungsten Silver & Twilight Gray. The on-the-road prices (inclusive of insurance, road tax, registration fee and ownership claim fee) valid for private individual registration in Peninsular Malaysia are RM89,800 for Navara 2.5L (6M/T) and RM94,800 for Navara 2.5L (6M/T SE).

As an optional purchase, a versatile and rugged utility box fitted in the cargo bed and with a 200L (VDA) storage capacity is perfectly designed for customers who need ample storage space for work tools or recreational gear.

The new Navara 6M/T variant can be viewed at all Nissan showrooms nationwide from today onwards.
