Malaysia’s karting sensation Muizzuddin Musyaffa Abdul Gafar stole some of the limelight at Round 3 of the World Karting Series (WSK) Super Masters Series at La Conca International Circuit in Leece, Italy last weekend (11 & 12 April) when he secured fourth placing in qualifying in a field of 70 karters from all over the world in the KF Junior class.
His sensational performance in his maiden season for the class continued in the heats when the Gamoto Racing driver won one of the four heats before a mistake in the pre-final race saw Muizzuddin managing eighth position; giving him a start position of 16th on the grid for the final in a field of 32 karters.
Back in the finals after two rounds of pre-mature dismissals in the pre-final contests, Muizzuddin, who was recently named as Malaysia’s Young Athlete of 2014 by Sportwriters Association of Malaysia (SAM), was determined to produce a good results for Round 3 as the Cheras-born karter pushed hard from the start.
In his bold approach, his CRG-Vortex machine hit Kenny Roosen’s kart at Turn 3 on the opening lap; putting the Malaysian out of control and pushing him to the back of the grid. That effectively out of contention for top places in the race. The young Malaysian eventually finished in 28th position; finishing 27.147 seconds behind race winner, Christian Lundgaard of Sweden in the 16-lap contest.
“This is a highly competitive contest with very little room for mistake. You missed a turn and you find yourself dropping down the grid and the positions. That happened with Muizz in the pre-final race where he dropped to 16th position and starting from the 8th row. It is a crowded grid and it is quite easy to be involved in incidents. But, here at Round 3, Muizz has again showed he had the confidence and the speed to match all the leading contenders, who are basically in their second and third year for this class.
“It is again about learning and maturity. Muizz is still learning and is enjoying the all the battles. We know that he is naturally very competitive; he always to win and finish at the top. He is always willing to take risks; but sometimes you need to be smart as well. There is still one more round to go in the Super Masters Series. Hopefully, Muizz can do well and be in good condition before his main championship – the CIK-FIA European Championship,” said Gamoto Racing Team Manager, Silvatore Gotto.
Muizzuddin’s next race in the WSK Super Masters Series will be the final round, which is scheduled on 24 and 25 April – at the International Circuit of Sarno, near Naples.
