MotoGP Valencia: Drama from the very start

Published on November 8th, 2009

We’re back again on the tarmac with the world’s best riders at MotoGP Generali De La Comunitat Valencianna. Rossi has already claimed the championship two weeks back in Sepang. This is the very last round of MotoGP this year.

They’re on the warm-up lap now, and Casey Stoner crashed! He high-sided moments after the release to begin his warming up lap, when he was just cruising around the track. Casey Stoner was okay, but he won’t be racing today. He was not too pleased though.

The race has started, with Pedrosa on the first position, Lorenzo on third and Rossi on fourth. Rossi has already putting up the pressure to Lorenzo, following closely behind.

Lorenzo overtook Elias, followed by Rossi, now on third. Owh! Lorenzo’s bike wobbled violently, giving opportunity for Rossi to overtake. Lorenzo was lucky to have managed to stay on the bike.

Rossi was closing the gap between himself and Pedrosa and with 26 laps to go, some of us can now predict the results already provided Rossi gave a perfect performance and the cold weather be more merciful. At the back, Elias was leading from fourth, with Edwards, de Puniet and Hayden following closely.

Elias and Edwards were battling for fourth, with each corners were taken closer and closer between each other. Hayden overtook de Puniet with 24 laps to go.

Rossi was now 1.9 seconds behind Pedrosa, with Lorenzo staying 1.2 seconds right behind Rossi. Rossi began closing the gap and soon will take the battle for first right up Pedrosa’s rear end.

Hayden now taking the battle for fifth right up Elias’ rear end, riding aggressively since the start of the race.

Rossi had nothing to lose if he got second since the championship title was already his. Pedrosa was giving it all he got by putting more distance between himself and Rossi. Lorenzo was really trying to close in on Rossi.

Pedrosa leading with Rossi, Lorenzo, Edwards and Hayden following behind with 3 laps to go. Lorenzo was getting closer and closer but he did not have enough time to overtake Rossi.

2 laps to go and the gap was really small now between the two fierce Yamaha riders. Less than two laps to go, Pedrosa stood a chance to win the race if his luck holds.

One lap to go, Pedrosa leading with Rossi following 3 seconds behind and Lorenzo around 1 second behind.

Pedrosa won! He managed to secure the first position on the last round of MotoGP this season, followed by Rossi on second and Lorenzo on third. Following behind was Colin Edwards, Hayden and Elias completing the top six.

Pedrosa was on his perfect, flawless performance today, keeping Rossi at bay.

There you have it, the last race of the season with Pedrosa holding the first position at Valencia and Rossi holding the world title yet again.

It would have been a great battle between Pedrosa, Rossi, Lorenzo and Stoner if Stoner didn’t crash on the warm-up lap. What a dramatic race, right from the warm-up lap.

“I was thinking only of this race starting from the start of the week. Of course, with Casey out of the race it made it a little easier but still, it was a good race,” said Pedrosa.

“We were struggling so much during the practice. When I saw that Stoner was out I thought it could be a win but I couldn’t get more from the cold tyres. Great battles from the distant with Dani Pedrosa and when Lorenzo coming closer I had to keep the distance between us. Still, great support from the team and the crew. Great race,” said Rossi.

“The race has been quite difficult and this track has never felt so great. It was difficult to overtake Rossi,” said Lorenzo.

See you next year, with Moto2 replacing the 250cc class.
