MMER2010: 12-hours of adrenaline rush, sweat and glory!

Published on August 8th, 2010

It was freezing cold in the media room as some of the media personnel continued with their work while others went for a much-needed shut-eyes. As the race entered it’s 8th hour, the media room came back to life as most of us all awake for the next 6 hours of the MMER2010. Tengku Hammam, Peter Kox and C. Haase of Arrows Racing managed to keep the R8 LMS  of Audi Race Experience Team at bay  with their lightning quick Lamborghini LP560.

11 minutes to the 8th hour, Alex Yoong, M. Marsh and Marchy Lee of KK Performance Team who have been keeping the third spot went limp as smoke engulfed the engine area. It was disheartening to the team to retire with only another 4 hours to go to complete the race.

With the KK Performance Team out of the way, the void was filled by the title defender, Petronas Syntium Team’s #28 at third and #1 at fourth position. Half an hour past the 8th hour, Arrows Racing is leading the rest completing 226laps, Frank Biela, Darryl O’ Young and M. Werner of Audi Race Experience Team at 222laps while the Petronas Syntium Team at 219 and 218laps respectively.

As for the Touring Production category, Honda Malaysia Racing Team (HMRT) is dominating the race, followed by HKS Garage R and Team Brothers in Racing in third after Nexus Racing’s hope goes down the drain due to mechanical failure.

In the 9th hour, the standings remained the same as the leading teams kept their pace consistent to ensure no mechanical failure would ruined the machine. Despite the defending champion’s effort of catching up with Audi Race Experience Team and the leader, Arrows Racing, being left behind 9 laps made it difficult if not impossible for the Petronas Syntium Team to keep the title.

As for the the Touring Production, Honda Malaysia Racing Team (HMRT) kept it strong along with HKS Garage R Team in second position, Team Brothers in Racing consistency up to now paid off as they were in third.

In the Sports Production category, Tracy Sports led JDM Dragon 1 by three laps while Patrick Ng in third position gave chase in order not to be left behind.

With the weather getting cloudier by the minutes, it might raised the concern of the teams still in the running as some were not equipped with wet tyres. This particular issues have raised the eyebrows of team managers the day before, as SIC Chairman’s informed them that due to unforeseen circumstances, wet tyres might not be available until late.

There’s another 1 and a half hour to go, and the standings remain the same… and I’d say it will stay the same unless something out of the blue occurs. Arrows Racing’s still leading the way with best time at 2.07.061 in the GT class. In the Touring Production class, HMRT reign supreme with best time at 2.27.810 while Tracy Sports lead the Sports Production class with best time at 2.29.260.

12 minutes towards the 11th hour, Petronas Syntium Team’s BMW Z4 M # 1’s engine died and only managed to complete 275 laps before giving way to Craft Racing the 4th position. #28 still holds tight to the third position. Arrows Racing makes it way to the pit 6 minutes towards the 11th hour to change driver and refueling with only 4 laps ahead of the Audi Race Experience Team. Now, there might be a change in the standings of the GT class. Would that be the case this year?

MMER2010 reached its final hour with Arrows Racing leading the GT class completing 315 laps followed by Audi Race Experience Team and Petronas Syntium Team in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Honda Malaysia Racing Team reigned supreme in the Touring Production Class  with HKS Garage R and Team Brothers in Racing in 2nd and 3rd placing while the Sports Production class led by Tracy Sports with JPM Dragon 1 in 2nd and  Patrick Ng, K H Khoo and Marcus completing the podium.
