Mazda set to unveil madder Miata

Published on August 6th, 2009

As far as pure unadultered driving goes, the Mazda MX-5 Miata not just wrote the book on it, it went on and won a Pulitzer for it as well.

Not content with that, the roadster also wears the tag of the world’s best selling sports car and to celebrate its fast approaching 20th birthday, Mazda has put on their nostalgic glasses and taken a look back to idioms that brought forward the first MX-5 to create a concept MX-5 Superlight speedster complete with missing windshield.

Apart from the windshield, other components that now call the factory floor home are the roof and most of the interior comforts apart from bucket seats. Hoping to reflect the purest speedster lines, even the door handles were shaved off to give it that straight-laced clean look.

Power isn’t everything and no other car proves that better than the Miata and rightly so, the engine has more than likely been left unmolested. Instead, the weight-saving from all the parts thrown out play a significant role in tightening up its already impressive handling while squeezing out more miles per litre and reducing CO2 emissions.

No other news has been released on this ravishing roadster but all will be revealed come the Frankfurt Motorshow next month so keep your eyes peeled for more shots of this driver’s dream.
