Many of us here at Modders Inc don’t really start our new year at the stroke of midnight, or a laid back holiday on the first of January. We start our new year with the modded rides galore at the event of Tokyo Auto Salon at Makuhari Messe, in none other than Tokyo Japan. Held every year on either the first or the second weekend of January, the Tokyo Auto Salon is the JDM equivalent of the SEMA Show in the States or SummerNATS in Australia so it is a tuning heaven where fans, traders and media alike got together for all the good reasons.
The Tokyo Auto Salon has been held for the past 28 years. On the opening Friday, entry to the exhibition is permitted from 9am to 6pm with a special preview at 1pm for those with business or press invitations. On Saturday, the show remains open for the public from 9am to 6pm, and on Sunday from 9am to 5pm. The main promoter for the Tokyo Auto Salon is the Tokyo Auto Salon Association (TASA) and the affiliate co-promoter is NAPAC (Nippon Auto Parts- Product After-Market Promotional Committee). The Chiba Prefecture government, Chiba City government, Avex Entertainment Inc., San-Ei Syobo Publishing Co.Ltd. as well as Idea Inc., and the Option-Land Global Communications Association are all affiliate sponsors and supporting organisations.
The Tokyo Auto Salon takes place at Makuhari Messe. The Tokyo Auto Salon’s popularity has grown resulting in an increase from 8 halls to 11 halls at the Makuhari Messe over the years and growing as the number of cars being displayed had increased every other year.
Makuhari Messe is one of the leading comprehensive convention facilities in Japan. It is a full scale convention complex with three large-scale facilities, which are the International Exhibition Hall, International Conference Hall, and Makuhari Event Hall. It also contains a parking lot that can facilitate 6,000 vehicles, which is also an attraction itself during Tokyo Auto Salon as car enthusiasts came with their modded rides. Most of them came in with their clubs. So you can see, it was quite an awesome show by itself at the cold outdoor’s of the event. There were also six international hotels located within walking distance from the convention centre. The convention centre hosts trade shows, exhibitions, international conferences, ceremonies, parties, symposiums, concerts, sports events, and fashion shows all year round.
And flip the pages to see why we come to this event every year. It is a mix of all motoring cultures into one big exciting venue. Business cards were traded, shots and flashes went off throughout the floor, entertainment, family fun, freebies and goodies, demos, you name it. It is the best weekend any modded car enthusiast can have. And we love the cold weather too.
