Local Radio DJ and Lucky Fan win Shell FuelSave Challenge 2012

The Shell FuelSave Challenge is back for the fourth consecutive year to live up to Shell’s legacy of fuel efficiency. The winning team – Team Era were the champions with a clock-in of 19.69 km on one litre of Shell FuelSave 95 along a route of 96 kilometres. The lucky fan, Ahmad Adlyn Othman walked away with RM5, 000 cash, as both team members bagged the coveted title of Shell FuelSave Challenge 2012 Champion.

“Before this, I’ve heard of driving tips that help save fuel while driving and today, I can proudly say that I am a fuel efficient driver having tried it firsthand. I was pleasantly surprised to have clocked in 19.69 km on just one litre of Shell FuelSave,” said Ahmad Adlyn, the lucky fan from Team Era. “This once-in-a-lifetime experience was even more thrilling as I got to team up with my favourite radio DJ, Adi. Thank you Shell for giving me this opportunity.”

The Shell FuelSave Challenge is one of Shell’s many initiatives as part of its on-going commitment to educate drivers to be more fuel efficient and savvy. This year the challenge took on a new twist by putting local personalities to the test of fuel efficiency. Radio DJs Ean Nasrun (Hitz. FM), Adifashla (ERA FM) and Wai Fun (MY FM) were each paired with a fan as they drove along a pre-determined route with two pit-stops along the way containing mini challenges to garner more team points. Each team member drove a Hyundai-Inokom 1.8 MD Elantra which was sponsored by Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd.

Today’s Shell FuelSave Challenge is an example of how real driving conditions, combined with the practice of Shell FuelSave Tips can make a difference.”

Also present at this Challenge and mentoring the teams was the Shell FuelSave Ambassador himself, local actor/ model / television host, Fahrin Ahmad. He said, “I’m proud to have been part of the Shell FuelSave journey in the past 4-years. Shell constantly hosts interesting activities in living up to its fuel efficiency commitment. This year, Shell Target One Million has a global target of 1 million so don’t miss out on your chance to be one in a million.”

The Shell FuelSave Challenge 2012 was held in conjunction with the launch of Shell’s global online campaign – “Target One Million”. This campaign aims to educate 1 million motorists globally to be more fuel efficient via a series of 6 mini-games being released over the coming months. Each module has been designed to elaborate a specific Shell FuelSave tip, making it fun and educational for all. The first module of the 6 series is the Shell FuelSave Challenge – registration is now available online for all motorists. It challenges players to drive a virtual car in the most fuel efficient way possible by following the Shell FuelSave Tips relating to car set up and driving style.

The next mini-game, Shell FuelSave Bootloader, is scheduled for launch in October 2012. Bootloader will challenge players to check their virtual car boots to remove unnecessary items and excess weight which is affecting their fuel efficiency – another effective but often overlooked fuel efficiency tip. Within months of Shell launching Target One Million, over 100,000 consumers worldwide have already learned fuel saving techniques and become ‘one in a million’.

It is the first online global campaign with participation from over 23 other countries, alongside Malaysia. Currently ranked #2 on the global leader board, Shell Malaysia believes that together we can propel Malaysia to the top spot.
