Sime Darby Auto Connexion (AutoConnexion), the authorized distributor for Ford Motor Company in Malaysia, today unveiled the new and sporty-look Ford Escape with kinetic design cues which have gained worldwide popularity.

Addressing the needs of diverse modern lifestyles ranging from adventure-seekers to sporty-minded city-dwellers, the new Ford Escape is powered by a 2.3-litre, four-cylinder DOHC engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) that offers impressive performance and fuel efficiency. The E20-capable engine produces 157PS at 6,000RPM and 200Nm of torque at 4,000RPM.

“Ford’s kinetic design style has received worldwide acclaim, and more recently, the Ford Escape was voted the Best Small/Mid Size SUV in the 2009 Autocar Awards.

“The Ford Escape has long been a favorite amongst discerning Malaysian drivers due to its excellent comfort, ride, handling and built quality since its introduction in 2001. It retains its distinction as a true SUV capable of handling all road conditions,” said Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd Managing Director for Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, Simon Rock.

“The Escape is the perfect SUV for modern families leading busy and active lives. It’s a safe, reliable, comfortable and sporty utility vehicle that is ideal for all kinds of journeys, whether heading to the beach or navigating the busy streets of KL,” added Rock.

Kinetic design cues are evident throughout the SUV from the front fascia to the rear bumper. The large lower grille aids in cooling the engine and adds to the sportiness that reflects Ford’s DNA. The newly designed honeycomb grille and fog lamps in body-colored style are designed to add to the strong, sporty and spirited look.

The 4WD Escape variant comes with the signature Control Trac II on-demand four-wheel-drive that includes a 50/50 front to rear torque split, which enhances the vehicle’s traction and brings out unmatched SUV capabilities in off-road driving conditions.

Safety features in the Ford Escape have been maintained with Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and driver and front passenger airbags which are standard for all models. Side airbags for driver and front passenger are available in the 4WD XLT version. The front ground clearance of 210 mm, meanwhile, offers great driving visibility.

The Ford Escape comes equipped with a comprehensive range of equipment, including cruise control, automatic climate control, six-CD changer with six speakers, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, rear parking sensor, and power adjustable exterior mirror for all series (with an additional power foldable feature for the 4WD XLT series).

Additional features on the 4WD XLT variant include a sunroof, five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels with 215/70R 16″ tires, as well as leather seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

A split rear gate enables Escape owners to reach for small items in the back of the vehicle without opening the whole rear door. An intelligent spare tire helps create more luggage space for passengers.

Despite these exterior changes, AutoConnexion still retails the Sport Utility Vehicle at the old OTR price (with insurance) of RM 139,888.00 for the 2.3L 4WD XLT variant. For the Ford Escape 2.3L 2WD XLS, its OTR price is from RM 118,888.00.

The Ford Escape 2WD XLS variant will be available in Ford showrooms from September 2010 onwards while the 4WD XLT variant is now available for viewing at all Ford showrooms nationwide.

The 2010 Ford Escape is fully imported from the Philippines and is available in Panther Black, Moondust Silver, Infra Red and Diamond White. All Ford Escapes come with a 3-year free maintenance and 3-year warranty (with terms and conditions attached).

Upon entry, you’ll notice the Escape Hybrid’s generous-sized moonroof and premium leather-trimmed seats. The 6-way power driver’s seat positioning is firm and refined with excellent visibility (one of the benefits of choosing a smaller SUV).
