ItaliaAuto celebrates Alfa Romeo’s Centenary

Published on July 13th, 2010

Alfa Romeo has been on our soil for quite some time now. Our grandfathers and fathers used to drive these or at least amazed of what it can do way before the existence of Proton and ended those glory days of reasonably priced imported cars to our country. Our cops used to have these Italians as their chase and patrol cars and hence the reputation of it being THE CAR to have. It handles well and can take on any of ’em twisties and zoom away on the highways and practically do everything a car can do and did it better.

And because of that, we always hear these old saying “If you haven’t driven an Alfa Romeo, you haven’t driven a car yet” or “You ain’t yet a man till you’ve driven an Alfa Romeo” and also “A man must have or driven an Alfa Romeo at least once before you die” or something along those bold lines. I guess it must have been true because before Ferrari, there’s Alfa Romeo. It goes back during Enzo’s racing days that he used Alfa Romeo before coming up with his own.

So we Malaysians have a bit of history with the soulful marque and it is with that piece of history, owners of Alfa Romeo from a local club called had rounded up the cars from club members and none club members to join in the Alfa Romeo’s Centennial Celebration Drive to Awana Resort, Genting Highlands via the favorite twisties of Ulu Yam. The move is to join other Alfisti around the world who are celebrating the centenary, and managed to pull up to a close mixture of 70 cars of classic vintage Alfas as well as the younger modern sexy models.

It sounded just right when you describe Alfa Romeos as sexy as we saw heads turning at every corners, street and town upon reaching the destination. And being sexy Italian models, these Alfas couldn’t resist the photography session held at the large open space upon reaching the top of Genting Park before a tour around it while descending to Awana for lunch.

Sime Darby AutoConnexion’s brand new centre at Jalan Ipoh held the flag-off for the drive in earlier in the morning and Awana provided the participants a night’s stay for them after a joyful ride in the curves of Ulu Yam and parade in the Genting Park itself. All in all it was a well celebrated event like any other for all Alfistis alike around the world in celebrating the marque 100th year of glorious existence. Do check out the photos to feel the excitement.
