Honda’s Hip New HR-V

After much anticipation, Honda Malaysia has finally launched Honda’s new compact SUV based on the Jazz and City platform, the Honda HR-V.


This HR-V have been heard as this is the second time the nameplate has been used with this second offering coming in a different class altogether.


This new iteration brings about the meaning of Hip & Smart Roundabout Vehicle. Followed by the launch of the HR-V around the region, the HR-V has finally landed in our shores with three variants on a sole engine option which is the 1.8 litre engine vehicle.

The all-new HR-V is aimed at grabbing the rapidly expanding SUV segment as this segment endured a rapid 74% growth from the past 5 years.


Although the SUV segment endured a growth but it is represented by higher-market SUV’s and for those who are upgrading from the entry-level segments are left well behind in their wants and this is where Honda’s new HR-V steps in to fill in the void.

As has been said, the sole engine option coming to Malaysia is the 1.8 litre engine which means the offering here in Malaysia is quite the high-spec as elsewhere, the HR-V also comes with a 1.5 litre engine as in the Honda Jazz and City.


The engine is of the 1.8 litre engine with 140 bhp @ 6,500 rpm and 172Nm of torque arriving at 4,300 rpm paired with an Earth Dreams CVT transmission. With the sole engine option, the HR-V gets 3 trim levels the S, E and V variants.


The standard amenities available across the range are Honda’s Multi-Utility Cargo Space which equips the rear seats with many versatile configurations such as a Utility Mode which frees up the space in the back by lowering the rear seats, Tall mode which the rear seats can be folded up to offer plenty of floor to ceiling space and Long Mode which the front passenger and rear seats can be reclined to fit long items.


Keyless entry and Push Start Button, footrest, touch-screen display audio, touch-panel auto air-conditioning, cruise control, tilt & telescopic steering wheel, LED rear combi lights, auto headlights for all variants with the V variant getting LED Headlight and Daytime Running Lights the S and E variants get the halogen units for both.


In terms of safety, many features are standard across the board with reverse sensors, dual front SRS airbags with the addition of side and side curtain airbags for the V variant, Emergency Stop Signal, One-touch Lane Change, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill-Start Assist, ABS with EBD and BA, a first in class Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with Automatic Brake Hold.


Suitable for its target markets which are Gen-Y singles, young couples and young families, the HR-V comes in at a very affordable starting price of RM99,800 for the S variant, RM108,000 for the E variant and the range-topping V variant comes in at RM118,800. The price is also inclusive of Honda’s 5 year warranty with unlimited mileage and a service interval of 10,000km. The HR-V is also available with 2 utility packages and 2 Modulo packages starting from RM1,550.
