Goodyear slides on with the KBS Goodyear Drift Challenge

Published on May 13th, 2010

Aiming to raise the standards of drifting and motorsports in general, Goodyear Malaysia has joined forces with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to organize the KBS Goodyear Drift Challenge 2010 as part of the Hari Belia 2010 over this 15 and 16 May weekend at Putrajaya.

The challenge will host a combination of local novice and expert drifters together with the Goodyear drifters compromising of the husband-wife duo of Ariff Johanis and Azrina Jane Abdullah as well as Hanizam ‘Loyai’ Hamzah and Michael Gan.

All the drifters involved will surely put on an exhilarating and smokey drift experience as they rip it sideways on the track with Goodyear’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric tyres cocooning their wheels.

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric was designed with a keen understanding of what the ultra-high performance segment needs for faster, more powerful and heavier vehicles requirements. The tires’ cornering ability plays a vital role in drifting because of its Active CornerGrip technology which was developed with the objective of increasing the tire-to-road contact area by distributing a more even pressure across the width of the tires’ tread patch thus resulting in better control especially in tight corners.

“Goodyear Malaysia is pleased to be supporting the government’s initiative to nurture local budding talent and in playing a role in KBS’ program – 1 Belia 1 Malaysia. Activities such as the KBS Goodyear Drift Challenge further reaffirm our commitment to developing grass root skills aimed at building young talent in the field of motorsports,” said Nasution Abdul Rahman, Managing Director of Goodyear Malaysia.

The event will be officiated by Datuk Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Defence.

The Goodyear Team will also be on hand to take lucky individuals on “taxi rides” around the circuit. Catch the action at the KBS Goodyear Drift Challenge 2010, this weekend – 15 and 16 May, 2010 at Precinct 3, Putrajaya. Entrance for the event is free.

On an additional note, Goodyear has also just clinched the Most Trusted Award brand for the tyre category in the Malaysia by Reader’s Digest for the second consecutive year.

Surveys were carried out through questionnaires as well as telephone interviews of randomly selected consumers to select the shortlisted brands. All of the research work was carried out by Synovate, a global market research company.

All the brands surveyed were ranked based on six qualitative criteria, trustworthiness and credibility, quality, value, understanding of customer needs, innovation and social responsibility.

“We are pleased that Goodyear was the recipient of the award for the second consecutive year – a definitive achievement for us. It is also testament that our brand has been well-received and trusted by Malaysian consumers throughout these years,” said Nasution.
