Godzilla takes another chomp out of its ‘Ring time

Published on July 12th, 2009

Everyone was already on their feet applauding the new Nissan GT-R when it graced the world during its launch and subsequently the crowd went apeshit when it bites off, chewed through and spat out the Nurburgring lap record back in April at 7:27:56 seconds.

Though to sanity’s defense, it wasn’t as if we hadn’t seen it coming. The writings were on the legendary asphalt of the proving ground for many a supercar contender and pretender.

Well of course what’s a good old lap-record-setting occasion if somebody won’t be a little girl and calls BS over the claims? In this case Porsche gladly took on that role, saying a stock GT-R isn’t capable of those times with Zuffenhausen’s finest behind its wheel.

Naturally, Nissan defended themselves by saying the Porsche test driver couldn’t full exploit the GT-R’s capabilities and went to the extent of slapping the Porsche boys in the face by offering driving lessons to them to fully push the Godzilla to its limits.

Yada yada yada and here we are as Nissan have gone one better and bested the GT-R’s ‘Ring time to 7:26:70 seconds once again with its famed test driver and ‘Ring master Toshio Suzuki behind the wheel. Just to avoid the hassle of slingshots from their German opposition they caught it on tape as well.

You can see in the video Suzuki going all out and whipping that GT-R to within a bolt of its life.
