FX Open’s Mazda RX8

Maybe most of us would not agree on Mazda’s decision to tame the wild rotary beast even though the looks of this fine piece of machinery is close to being obscene, but you have got to admit Mazda’s RX-8 ability to turn heads, especially when a little of this and that is making sweet sweet rotary growl in the engine bay.

Well, all of us know that the legendary RX-7 is sitting quite comfortably on top of the food chain in the rotary segment, so let’s not compare. The RX-8 is much tamer, so to speak.

Let’s take a look at the engine bay first shall we? The stock standard (a.k.a. boring) air filter has been replaced with an HKS Racing suction air filter, with LINKS remapped ECU for the thinking cap, Okada plasma direct ignition coils, APEX’i Hybrid Megaphone Revolution exhaust system which produces sweet, sweet rumbling sound from that even sweeter albeit tamer Rotary 13b 1.3ltr.

The owner claimed that 190 wild stallions are running free inside the engine bay, and the top speed is now in excess of 240km/h. The transmission is of the 6-speed manual tranny with Ogura single clutch for a more fun gear play.

Brakes are good enough so the owner decided to keep the original braking system, but he might need to change with a little bit more power if he’s going to continue to add a few more stallions into the engine bay. There’s nothing more scary than having your brakes fading a few seconds before hitting the wall at a speed quite affective in modifying a human’s skull into a more compact form.

But he can probably just turn the steering wheel and let his TEIN Super Street suspension,and AVS Model 5 19″ stock wheels with TOYO T1R tires (235/35ZR19 front, 265/30ZR19 rear) to keep the rear-wheel drive car firmly on the tarmac.

Looking good on the car is the FXOpen stickers, decorated in lively orange and black over white paintjob. ATH Front bumper is coupled with Mazdaspeed rear bumper, sideskirts and spoiler. X-Tint is used to darken the glasses so that he can, err, hide from the sunlight.

Beside the BOSE Speakers and Pivot throttle controller, the rest is pretty much standard. But we’ll definitely be waiting for more from this particular RX-8.
