FERRARI RACING DAYS: TURFING TARMAC WITH THE PRANCING HORSES

One thing about the well heeled Malaysians is that they are getting better at spending money on luxury sports cars. And most of them have chosen Ferrari as the brand of choice. This brings the awesome Malaysia’s first-ever Ferrari Racing Days over the weekend of February 21st to 23rd at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

The event saw more than 1,000 visitors including 300 additional Ferrari owners from across the region for a thrilling weekend with the iconic prancing horse.

Ferrari Racing Days is aimed at creating a unique lifestyle experience for Ferrari owners various regions, and appeals to their passion and enthusiasm towards the brand.

The event provides the brand a platform to showcase Ferrari’s racing DNA and track heritage to both owners and fans, immersing them into the world of Ferrari through an array of activities.

It is amazing to see the pits transform into some sort of a showroom, displaying many sought after Ferrari models that we seldom see on Malaysian roads, such as the FXX series together with the 599XX (the double X is almost porn-like), the open wheeled, the Formula 1 car V10 F2001 and the V8 F2007  and and the 458 Speciale.

“We have a history here in Malaysia; the public understand our brand and the ethos behind it.  In that respect, Malaysia has a mature client base for Ferrari, which is refreshing to find in this region,” explained Managing Director of Ferrari Far East, Giuseppe Cattaneo.

“We have had clients from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and China joining us this weekend, and although this is our first Ferrari Racing Days in Malaysia, we are planning to develop our activities in Malaysia and hope that this will be the beginning of a new annual tradition.”

The highlight of the weekend was the first and second rounds of the Ferrari APAC Challenge 2014, which was a race event that brought together complete novices and experienced drivers from around the world.

For this year’s challenge, Ferrari developed the 458 Challenge Evoluzione, a testament to the brand’s commitment to the on-going “Evolution” in its single-marque championship, as well as other activities.

“The Ferrari Challenge is now 22 years old and it is the one-make championship for Ferrari that most of the Ferrari owners here long for.

This event allows our clients to race on the most beautiful race tracks in the world, in the upgraded 458 Italia” commented Antonello Coletta, Head of the Ferrari Sporting Activity Department.

“As a company, we have had a racing tradition since birth and Ferrari Racing Days allows us to share that with our clients and our fans.” Indeed it was as the crowd from all ages come to see the the track painted in Rosso Corsa, well, most of them are in that colour.

The Ferrari APAC Challenge was led by Max Blancardi from Italy in the Pirelli Pro classification who took the chequered flag in both Race 1 and Race 2 of the Trofeo Pirelli.

For the newcomers in the Coppa Shell, David Tjiptobiantoro from Indonesia took victory in both races.

The Pirelli classification of experienced drivers saw more competition, with Philippe Prette from Hong Kong taking the honours in Race 1 and Steve Wyatt from Australia emerging victorious in Race 2.

As for the cross-classification “Gentlemen’s Cup”, which is for the best performance for veterans over the age of 50, Angelo Negro from Italy dominated, claiming the trophy in Races 1 & 2.

With drivers commenting on the challenging and yet fulfilling Sepang International Circuit, the Ferrari Challenge closed by continuing to provide one of the most unique racing experiences in the world.

Ferrari owners were also thrilled to welcome the esteemed Corso Pilota programme that allowed guests to put their techniques and driving skills to the test on race tracks and experience their cars’ ultimate potential.

Supported by professional drivers, the “Pilota Around the World” is an entrance to the official Corso Pilota course in Italy.

The event ended with the Owners Parade, which saw 160 Ferraris take a spectacular lap of honour around Sepang International Circuit.Ferrari Racing Days and Ferrari APAC Challenge 2014 will continue to travel to major cities across the region, sharing the exhilarating world of Ferrari with owners and fans everywhere.
