FEDERAL OPEN DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP 2011, ROUND 1

Published on September 9th, 2011

The recent Open Drift Championship with Federal Tyres (M) as the title sponsor raised a whole new level in bringing a world class motorsport even closer to Malaysians last weekend. This collaboration between Federation D and Federal Tyres attracted almost 3000 spectators roaring at the track of Speed City KL in the midst of watching live drifting by amateur and professional drifters alike. Both Rounds of ODC are held at the new multi-purpose track named Speed City KL, located at the Selangor Turf Club, off Sungei Besi Highway, near Palace of the Golden Horses.

ODC is a two-day event in which the categories of drivers are divided to both amateur and professional levels. A driver’s level is judged based on their winnings, experience and participation in recognized drift events. Better than expected, the number of drifters’ participation was good, with more than 40 cars competing, and ODC had a number of established drifters who drift internationally, joining the Open Drift Championship. ODC’s judges are pioneers in the Malaysian drifting scene.

What differentiates ODC from other local drift events that have been around for a few years is that Federation D aims to raise the Malaysian drift scene to an international level. Looking at the bigger picture, Federation D created their very own “drift series” that is fast becoming a platform for drifters all over the world to compete and perform. Indirectly, many more factors such as Malaysian tourism and exposure will also benefit from the thousands of motor-sport fans who watch follow ODC on facebook and youtube from around the globe. Federation D is working towards expanding the series beyond KL, and to other countries in the years to come.

Do block your calendar and head to Speed City this coming 24th – 25th September for Round 2 of Federal ODC 2011! For more information check out www.federationd.com.
