Fairuz Fauzy sets a strong case on the Formula Renault circuit

Published on July 4th, 2009

Malaysia’s likely next F1 son, Fairuz Fauzy, will be hoping to build on the momentum of his victory at the last World Series Formula Renault 3.5 round at the Hungaroring Circuit in Hungary as the Formula Renault circus rains down on Silverstone this weekend.

Fairuz was the toast of the team as he piloted his MofazFortec Motorsports machine across the finish line ahead of the field to snatch victory.

The team began plotting their precise tactical assault on Silverstone from Thursday onwards. This will allow Fairuz and his team mate, Estonian Sten Pentus, to get a feel for the track and compile all their input for the engineers, technicians, and support crew to ensure the machine is extremely copasetic for race weekend.

Following an extensive and intensive 18 years involvement in the motorsports scene, the Fortec Motorsports team was acquired by Mofaz Group as one of the participating teams in the Formula Renault series.

This bestows the title of the first Asian company to own a competitive racing team in the World Series championship on the Mofaz group.

Fortec are well acquainted with the single-seater racing world. The team has been the stepping stone for the likes of Juan Pablo Montoya and Heikki Kovalainen, to name a few.

Operating out of a 6,000-square foot factory in Northamptonshire, the team has three of its own articulated race-transporters and two rigid transporters for their slew of race cars as well as support vehicles that attend the races and testing sessions.

Being the sole bearer of the ‘Jalur Gemilang,’ as well as being the sole Asian, Fairuz must have some pretty decent shoulders as he lugs the hope of a nation to shine on the world stage against an elite group of his peers on the motorsports scene.

Pentus will be aiming to go one further and bag MofazFortec a one-two finish this weekend. Pentus is supported in his quest for racing glory by his home government, further testament to the believe and confidence that all interested parties share with the MofazFortec Motorsports brand.

Throughout the Formula Renault series, both drivers have been running side by side, giving the other drivers a serious run for their hard earned sponsorship dollars.

Fairuz has, undeniably, not been getting the support and cheers of the home crowd as much as he deserves. Long considered the penultimate step towards the holy Mecca of racing that is F1, victory in the Formula Renault series will most certainly be a great boost to Fairuz’ F1 aspirations.

Tune in to support one of our favourite racing sons this weekend on the Eurosport Channel (Astro Channel 814) as he tears down the Silverstone Circuit live at 8.30pm tonight (Saturday 4th July). If you’re too busy having some Saturday night fever, recorded races will be aired by Eurosport at 7.00am and 10.00am the following day for the first race while the second race will have its five minutes of fame at 5.00am and 12.00pm on Monday.
