Fairuz does Malaysia proud in the World Series by Renault 2009 Championship

It looks like everyone was celebrating during the weekend, well, except for those who fell somewhat short of points to win. Mofaz Racing’s driver, Fairuz Fauzy was screaming for blood when he set foot on the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain earlier today to settle some scores on Race 2. Race 2 was the finality, the end-game, where the top three drivers in the Championship short list will be sitting on the throne. No sharing, of course.

With pole position in hand, Fairuz was served with several technical glitches on his car during Race 1 and was forced to drop down to tenth at a point. Determined to give a hands-on teachings to the other drivers, he managed a few quick overtakings and finished sixth on Saturday. He took some time off and went into meditation after the race and came back prepared for Sunday’s ultimate showdown on Race 2.

He started from Pole Position again on Race 2 and was leading the rest for several laps before heading for an early pitstop. Bertrand Baguette from International Draco Racing was quick to learn Fairuz’s strategy and caught up before joining Fairuz into the pitstop and left right before Fairuz, taking away Fairuz’s lead.

The battle for first position was underway, with Fairuz taking quick corners to make up lost seconds but Baguette was simply out of his reach. Although he managed to lessen his lap time on the last four laps, Baguette was already way ahead and Fairuz had to concede for second place. Second place was enough for him to emerge second overall in the World Series by Renault 2009 Championship with 98 points.

The deafening roar from Mofaz Racing team, with Malaysian flag waving, was filling the air during the podium ceremony.

“My utmost gratitude to God, for allowing me the opportunity to get this far in life, and also to my family, who have been the pillar of strength and support throughout the 20 years of challenges to get here, and also the whole Mofaz Group for believing in me, and always being there for me through thick and thin. I dedicate this achievement to all Malaysians and to all my fans from around the world,” Fairuz said.

Mofaz Racing will be in Spain for the next two weeks to conduct winter testing and also to test potential drivers from several championships with Fairuz Fauzy holding the cane.
