Eye-Catchingly Sporty – Nissan Latio Tuned by IMPUL

Published on October 14th, 2009

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) now has a stable of impressive, head-turning models exclusively tuned by Impul, and one of these exclusive models is the four-door sedan Nissan Latio Tuned By Impul.

The Nissan Latio Tuned By Impul is termed as exclusive because it has a limited production run and is targeted at customers who want a sportier, more distinctive Latio with driving characteristics and performance that is at a whole new level when compared to the stock Latio and other rival models within the same segment.

The Impul Tuned Nissan Latio differs from the stock Latio because it has been enhanced with a set of Impul parts and accessories. The Impul parts that sets this Impul Tuned Nissan Latio apart from the rest are an Impul Aerokit, an Impul Sports Suspension System, an Impul Blast II Exhaust Muffler, and last but not least, ‘the icing on the cake’ or so to speak in the form of a set of enviable 17”inch Team Impul NS GTII alloy wheels.

IMPUL Aerokit

Without the Impul Aerokit, aesthetically the stock Nissan Latio is rather bland and uninspiring like its interior. It will go about without notice and it will simply blend in unnoticed with the rest of the crowd.  On the other hand, the Impul Tuned Nissan Latio that has been aesthetically enhanced with the Impul Aerokit will turn heads and garner attention because of its distinctively sportier look and stance, as well as its rarity on the road since it is produced in limited numbers.

ETCM got it right when it described the Impul aerokit as exuding visual drama and dynamic presence, simply because it does do so and with great effect, which was clearly evident when the car was driven around the Klang Valley. The Impul Aerokit consists of a new front grille, front and rear bumper spoiler, side skirts and at the rear, Impul’s trademark wing spoiler.

IMPUL Sports Suspension System

Although the MR18DE engine nestled under the bonnet of the Impul Latio is untouched and in stock form, the stock suspension was scuttled in favour of a set of Impul Sports Suspension System to lend truth to the distinctiveness of the Impul Latio being a car with sporty driving characteristics and performance.

The Impul Sports Suspension System is not just a lowering kit but a high performance suspension system which consists of absorbers and springs that bring about a lowered ride height of 25mm, and this sports suspension has been designed to provide a firm, flexible and yet comfortable ride all at the same time.

According to ETCM, extensive real-time vehicle suspension testing was carried out in order to attain the exhilarating sporty ride experience with the highlight being enhanced lateral force support especially when cornering, thanks to better neutral cornering characteristics.

Even when pushed hard into a corner or bend, the Impul Latio was able to hold its own and maintain its fast course in and then out of the corner without any loss of control or steer which was impressive to say the least.

IMPUL Blast II Exhaust Muffler

Apart from providing distinctively sporty driving characteristics and performance, the Impul Latio needed another sporty addition to complement the exterior enhancements and further add to the car’s sporty looks and appeal. This came in the form of an exhaust muffler and the Impul Blast II Exhaust Muffler was the muffler of choice for the Impul Latio as not only does it look good sitting under the rear bumper of the Impul Latio, but it also sounds good while not being overbearingly noisy.

The Impul Blast II Exhaust Muffler is a high quality stainless steel exhaust muffler in a polished finish emblazoned with the Impul logo on the tailpipe. This muffler is a functional one as it is said to provide a sharper engine response, although while driving the noticeable characteristic of the muffler would be the sporty note. Maybe a drive in a stock MR18DE powered Latio will showcase the difference in engine response.

17″inch Team IMPUL NS GTII wheels

It would be pointless to give a car a bodykit that makes it look good, or rather better in the case of the Latio, and leave it running on seemingly tiny stock rims and tyres. ETCM got it right by equipping the Impul Latio with the Team Impul NS GTII Alloy Wheels, which just so happens to be the most recognizable wheels to be rolled out by Impul.

Apart from looking good and making the cars that wear such wheels look good, these rims are lightweight as each rim only weighs 6.48kg. It seems this set of rims which are wrapped with Dunlop Formula D 01 205/45 R17 tyres, are also functional as it optimises handling and sharpens the steering feel. Aesthetically too, it improves the poise and stance of the Impul Latio on the road. The rims’ gold finish is striking and it is exclusively available only for the Impul Latio.

The Nissan Latio Tuned by Impul is a sporty B-Segment car to seriously consider if one is in the market for a B-segment car that stands out from the rest.  Although the interior might be rather plain and simple even with the wood finish interior trim elements (something that is uncomprehensable in car with such a sporty image), the cabin is spacious and quite comfortable despite the stiffer ride experience.

The cabin’s spaciousness which allows five adults to sit comfortably, has been tagged as class leading for both roominess and in its extensive use of soft, plush materials. Features such as full keyless entry and ignition with an Intelligent Key System, and bi-xenon headlights (equipped with an auto on function) are welcome additions that further add to the car’s appeal.

The Nissan Latio Tuned By Impul version costs RM100,500.00 more than the standard Nissan Latio. This is a savings of RM5,000 compared to the Impul parts and accessories for the Latio being purchased individually. For existing Latio owners who are contemplating purchasing the Impul parts and accessories for their rides, by all means please do so as it does makes the Latio look and feel so much better.

The Nissan Latio Tuned By IMPUL can be exclusively viewed at selected Nissan showrooms nationwide and it comes with a 3-year or 100,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty. After-market purchase for IMPUL Performance Parts is available for existing Nissan Latio owners
