Exora goes back to basics 4 you!

Published on November 19th, 2009

Proton have dipped their tippy-toes into the bargain basement end of the local MPV segment by putting their Exora through the usual Atkins diet and giving us the Exora Basic.

It’d be downright thick-skinned to ask for more with the starting price of RM57,548 (OTR w/o insurance). Granted, the usual suspects are missing from the spec sheet but we’ve become accustomed to it in this market.

Braking is more demanding with the exclusion of ABS whilst only the driver gets an airbag in the event of a head-on collision. Apart from that, the rest are cosmetic bits such as wheel covers instead of rims, different seat fabric, plastic door trim and non-colour coded bits and fitments on the inside as well as outside.

Proton’s Body Control Module is still standard but is lacking some of the finer features. Furthermore, those long journeys balik kampung will be all the more uneventful as the DVD player is missing as well.

“This is our final offering of an affordable MPV for our customers this year. Starting from RM57,548, the Exora Basic will be the most affordable 7-seater MPV in the market offering the same passenger and luggage spaciousness and the same 1.6-liter Campro CPS engine of the Medium and High Line Exora’s,” said Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, Proton Holdings Berhad Group Managing Director.

The Exora Basic only comes with a manual tranny and three colour options. Solid White goes for RM57,548 while the other two, being metallic shades of Genetic Silver and Tranquility Black, will set you back a bit more at RM57,998.

It will be available for viewing at all Proton Edar branches nationwide from this Saturday onwards, November 21st, and a booking fee of RM500 will apply if you feel like calling one your own.

There’s all the more reason to drop by a Proton Edar outlet this weekend as Proton Holdings is showing its appreciation for its customers with its Proton 4 You program. Running over the November 21st and 22nd this weekend in conjunction with the beginning of the school holidays, Proton will have a variety of family-oriented activities to keep everybody occupied.

There’ll be colouring contests, family quizzes and games with exciting prizes to be won for all in the family.

“We would like to keep our promise of giving back more to our customers. On top of the Drive for Holiday year-end campaign currently running at all Proton Edar outlets, we would like to have a special event for us to show our appreciation to all Malaysians for their support and trust in us, especially during the recent economic crisis,” explained Syed Zainal.

To kick it up a notch, if you book a Proton car over this weekend, Proton will also throw in a free personal assurance policy worth RM10,000. To cap it all of, the Proton iCare team will be present at some outlets to offer a free 20-point inspection for your Proton vehicle. Make the most of this and look out for them in their bright orange attire.

On a business perspective, the Exora is outdoing itself in the local market as well as in regional markets like Indonesia. The Exora will make its Thailand entrance on December 1 at the Bangkok Auto Expo and will surely be a hit there too.

Even the Proton Saga is going strong, still chalking up sales of approximately 8,000 units a month for the national carmaker.

As for their plans next year, Proton will be looking to focus more on the export side of things around the regional market. They will be pushing the Exora and Saga in the Middle East markets.

Proton will be looking to build on its relationship with Youngman China to expand its stake in the lucrative China market. India will also see a bigger slice of the cake for next year.

Also present at the officiating of the Proton 4 You program was Abdul Sidik Abdul Hamid, the General Manager of Marketing Sales and Kamsani Ahmad, the General Manager of Marketing.
