EMC recorded 1884km in 24hours in the Malaysian Book of Records

Published on March 21st, 2011

It was quite an achievement as Enduro Malaysian Chapter (EMC) managed to set a record in the Malaysian Book of Records by riding 24 hours and completing 1884km in total distance.

Overall the ride was done in a drizzle of rain as it was flagged off from Permaisuri Resort in Port Dickson. Mr. Junaidi and Ms. Mira of Malaysian Book of Records flagged off the 6 riders  who were being escorted by Marshal Malaysia Team (MMT).

The ride towards south was good. Nevertheless the real challenge started from Mersing and Kota Baharu as riders had to battle the heavy rain and cold weather. It was a battle of endurance and mental strength to the riders. Only from Rantau Panjang and Pengkalan Hulu around 8am to 11am the riders get to ride in sunny weather. overall I would say the riders were riding 80% of the 24-hour ride all drenched before seeing the sunny side of the weather.

By the time all six riders arrived at Tasik Banding, they have already covered about 1100km in distance, more or less half of the journey completed. Nevertheless, as they arrived in baling, EMC riders cancelled their plan to ride to Padang Besar, Perlis.

They had to cancel it as they got a report that the traffic was quite hectic towards Padang Besar and it was still raining cats and dogs along the highway. Rather than taking unnecessary risks due to high traffic during the school holiday, it might also be a cause not to arrive back at Permaisuri Resort before 8.40pm.

In order to complete the distance of the cancelled route to North, riders went the extra mile towards Alor Gajah toll in Melaka and back to Seremban toll to complete a staggering distance of 1884km.

It was quite a challenge for the riders as they had to face weather changes, jam-packed roads, radio communication breakdown among the EMC riders and a whole lot more. The most crucial challenge was to endure extreme fatigue and being sleepy. Simply said it’s quite a mental and physical challenge to the riders and the machine respectively.

By 7.45pm, despite fatigue creeping in, the riders arrived at Port Dickson toll and stopped at Shell in Mambau to refuel. For there on, they ride to Permaisuri Resort being escorted by the Traffic Police of IPK Negri Sembilan along with Malaysia Marshal Team (MMT).

The riders arrived at Permaisuri Resort in a heavy applause by the guests and bikers’ community in traditional music galore playing in the background thanks to Pasukan Pancaragam Nafiri who came all the way from Kuala Lumpur. As the riders managed to endure the 24-hour ride into the Malaysian Book of Records, they endured another hour or two for dinner as part of the celebration of EMC challenge 2011.
