Ducati Streetfighter – Naked and controls your in and out (of corners)

Published on August 20th, 2009

Hail to all you naked bike riders. Sorry, I’m still in the mood of the fashion show I attended recently of which my editor is still disallowing me to write about ’em girls.

For all you Ducati lovers, Naza has just launched the very first naked superbike that comes standard with Dynamic Traction Control (for the S-version) – the Ducati Streetfighter.

The bike was unveiled by SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin, Joint Group Executive Chairman of Naza Group and Next Bike Sdn Bhd at a press preview today.

For those of you who’s not in the know, having a traction control on your bike means the rider will spend less time lying down on the tarmac due to lost traction while cornering or riding in the rain. If you’re familiar with Kuala Kelawang and have a corner named after you, then this is probably the best bike for you.

The Ducati Streetfighter is a 1098cc naked superbike and running on L-Twin Cylinder, 8-valves Desmodronic liquid-cooled engine. 155 horses can be seen spurting out from its twin exhaust ports when the rev meter reaches 9500rpm with its max torque rated at 115Nm at the same rev range.

Riding the bike too fast when reaching a corner can be quite intimidating, but with 245mm discbrake with 2-piston caliper for the rear and twin 330mm semi-floating discs with radially mounted Brembo Monobloc 4-piston caliper for the front, plus the DTC, dominating the corners is not a question of how, but whether you have the balls to try it out.

The DTC is operated via a switchgear on the right, reachable by your thumb. We do not recommend using your foot to change the setting. The desired setting is also displayed on the digital instrument cluster. Eight settings are available – Track, urban riding, B-roads, dry roads, wet roads and a few others. Depending on the level of traction control required, the system will only intervene if necessary.

SM Faisal said, “The Streetfigher is aimed squarely at the seasoned professional biker who needs a new challenger in his or her life. The Ducati Streetfighter makes no excuses for what it is; a hardcore performance inspired supersport bike and if its looks alone aren’t enough to convince anyone, then its spec sheet will certainly will. The anticipation of the enthusiasts for the Streetfighter is shown when the first batch of the bikes have already been sold.”

The Streetfighter is priced at RM141,000 while the S-version is priced at RM163,000 (both nett selling prices). The bike is available for viewing at Next Bike showroom, but hurry up!
