Ducati’s mix of unrivalled twin-cylinder power, sportsbike heredity and lightweight yet minimalist supermotard concept has come alive in Malaysia as Next Bike Sdn Bhd has now made available the new 796 Hypermotard in Malaysia.

The dual purpose machine was launched by Next Bike Sdn Bhd, a company under the NAZA Group of Companies, at the sprawling NAZA World of Bikes showroom at the TTDI Plaza in Taman Tun Dr Ismail recently.

Among biking enthusiasts, the 796 Hypermotard has been dubbed as riding the “common ground between manners and madness”.

NAZA Group of Companies Joint Group Executive Chairman Dato’ Haji SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin said the Hypermotard’s very concept is a creation of an innovative segment that bridges the gap between hyper-sports bikes and supermotards.

“It takes the high speed handling and smooth engine from a hyper-sport bike and combines it with the aggressive styling, lightweight minimalism and slow corner precision of a supermotard,” he said.

He added that the Hypermotard 796 would be the first for subsequent model launches from Ducati Malaysia for 2010.

“At NAZA, we strive to offer our customers choices to own their lifestyle. And so, Ducati Malaysia will offer the very best of the brand, and subsequently a comprehensive range of bikes, from lifestyle hypermotards to the ultimate superbikes.”

The result is an easy to handle motorcycle with unbelievable agility, incredibly sure-footed handing and a flexible engine that deals with city traffic just as easily as a spirited ride through the winding mountain roads.

The Hypermotard is all about motorcycling enjoyment. Thus, its upright and commanding riding position puts riders in control and its motard DNA invites offers fun with every twist of the throttle.

It adjusts to individual riding styles while lightweight and taut chassis enables the rider to explore new and interesting riding techniques.

The Hypermotard’s mix of hyper-sports and supermotard heredity encourages a similar mix of riding styles and riding gear and has become a thrilling fusion of motorcycle lifestyles.

This, coupled with minimalism and functionality, have shaped and styled the Hypermotard, which has set it apart from the rest. The line of its distinctive beak blending into the stylish headlamp fairing makes it instantly recognizable, while the carefully shaped tank that tapers into a skinny waistline gives a supermotard feel when aboard.

From the sturdy look of the Marzocchi front forks to the Ducati signature single-sided swing-arm and under-seat exhausts, the Hypermotard’s design remains unique and pure Ducati.

The Hypermotard 796’s new engine produces an impressive 81hp at 8,000rpm and 75.5Nm of torque at 6,250rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Twin 305mm semi-floating discs gripped by radially mounted 4-piston Brembo calipers provide powerful and progressive front-end braking with that all-important rider-friendly ‘feeling’, while the rear is equipped with a 245mm disc and 2-piston caliper, also by Brembo.

At 825mm, the seat height of the 796 is a sure-footed 20mm lower than the 1100.

Suspension duties up front are taken care of by very capable 43mm Marzocchi forks, which are gripped by completely redesigned top and bottom fork clamps. The fork bottoms, which also have radial mountings for the brake calipers, are redesigned with a far more compact profile.

Through decades of racing and development, Ducati has proven that innovative chassis engineering and evolutionary frame advancements win races. The tubular Trellis frame, used on every Ducati motorcycle, is a signature design element.

This unique Ducati frame is light, rigid and beautiful thanks to its ingenious Trellis design and use of high quality ALS 450 tubing.  Each tube is mitred and micro-fusion welded in a complex triangulated pattern and our incredibly strong L-Twin engine cases are functional ‘stressed members’ of the chassis.

The rear Sachs suspension features adjustable spring preload and return damping, allowing adjustments for riding style or load, while the wheels are 17-inch 5-spoke ones from well-ronowned brand Enkei.
