DRiVE safe for general population

Published on July 22nd, 2010

We welcome the newest addition to our motoring cousin to the wonderful world of wheels and grandmother stories of how fast their rides are, although this cousin of ours will not delve into the speed-freak section of the motoring world.

DRiVE is the latest motoring-based TV programme which will be aired on the privately owned NTV7 and will begin its first season with the first episode airing on next week’s Thursday (July 29) at 8.30pm.

DRiVE is hosted by Nont Wathanasin, a deejay, host, and a fellow car enthusiast. Nont will be reviewing cars and will be doing ’em using layman’s terms to allow easier understanding for those who are not technical savvy (or if you’re just plain lazy to study the terms).

“What’s different with DRiVE is that the show is not performance-inclined, although we will be touching a little bit of here and there of the area. We will be doing reviews based on what Malaysian cares about the most, which are reliability, fuel consumption, comfort, and whether or not the car reviewed is within their budget or not. We will also be giving tips and advices on safety driving and point the viewers on mistakes done while driving,” said Airin Zainul, NTV7 managing director.

Season 1 focuses mainly on non-premium cars, with heavy inclination towards Korean, Japanese and local cars although the season does include Continental brands such as Peugeot. The show will not be reviewing premium and luxury cars, although there are plans to broaden the scope on Season 2.

Every episode carries different themes and is subjected to the type of cars involved in specific episodes. Does that include wheelbarrows as well? We certainly hope not.

There will be celebrities gracing the show and they will be talking about their own cars which will be similar to the ones being reviewed. Among the celebrities who give their blessings are Jaclyn Victor, Dr Faiz Khaleed, Adam Carruthers and Joanna Bessey.

Each episode will end with participation of customers at selected Esso or Mobil outlet and will be given freebies which include car accessories and car-care products.
