Double points finish for Junior Lotus Racing

Published on September 19th, 2010

Junior Lotus Racing enjoyed a good first race of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series weekend at Silverstone, with Nelson Panciatici claiming fifth place and Daniil Move finishing in 10th position.

Both drivers made great progress up the field during an eventful race, and the Wellingborough-based team was able to celebrate points-scoring performances for both men at the home of the British Grand Prix.

Frenchman Panciatici took ninth place on the grid, but had been as high as second earlier on in the session. He only dropped back in the closing minutes, due to getting held up in traffic, when everyone fitted their second sets of tyres.

He leapt to sixth at the start, and then moved up to fourth just before half-distance when there was a two-car collision in front. Unfortunately he was not able to hold off a challenge from behind at two-thirds distance, but after that he kept pace well to a strong finish in fifth.

Russian Move vaulted to 14th during the first lap, then won some hectic midfield battling to move into the top 10 just before half-distance. From then on he defended well in the face of an attack from Greg Mansell, the son of former World Champion Nigel Mansell, to claim his first point since the Monaco GP support race back in May.

Team manager Peter Crolla said: “We suffered a little bit in qualifying with the traffic. If Nelson had put his best sector times together he would have been fourth instead of ninth. But he made a very good start and we benefited nicely from the incidents.

“Both Nelson and Daniil drove outstanding races. Nelson was fully in control, and it was unfortunate that he lost a place later in the race. Daniil’s pace was excellent – he had a tough qualifying but he raced fantastically in the pack.”

After racing with the regulation low-downforce aerodynamic set-up today, the teams all revert to standard downforce for tomorrow’s race, which includes pit-stops.

“Nelson is very comfortable with the car in higher-downforce trim with both qualifying and race set-ups,” said Crolla. “We were very happy with the progress we made in testing on Friday. With Daniil, we made some mechanical changes to his car between qualifying and the race today, and we will continue those steps to hopefully get him a good result tomorrow.

“It was fantastic to take points away from the race with both cars today – we’re very pleased with that and hope for a repeat tomorrow.”

Updates by the Renault Motorsport Board that as a result of Esteban Guerreri’s unfortunate disqualification at WSR F3.5 Race 1 yesterday in Silverstone, our Junior Lotus Racing drivers Nelson Panciatici has now claimed 4th position, whilst Daniil Move moves up to 9th position.
