Today, Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn. Bhd. marked another chapter to its ever-expanding model-line up by introducing the new Suzuki S-Cross. Touted as the replacement for the recently discontinued Suzuki SX4 in Malaysia, this crossover boasts a unique balance of technology, safety, space and versatility unlike any other offering in its segment. Coming here to Malaysia is a sole model which is the 1.6 litre 2WD model which comes as a CBU unit imported from Hungary.
With the Suzuki S-CROSS, Suzuki engineers designed the physical structure of the model using an aerodynamic-focused computer-aided to minimize drag and the chassis is designed using highly-rigid and lightweight materials to keep to Suzuki’s core of creating sporty and lightweight vehicles. This results in the Suzuki S-CROSS tipping the scales with a kerb weight of less than 1,185kg. These figures are comparable to an A-Segment car which is no mean feat considering the amount of room and the class that the Suzuki S-CROSS is in. With it being lightweight it is a no-brainer that this crossover can hit 100km/h in 11.0 seconds which can make the Suzuki S-CROSS keep up with the best in its class.
Powering this new addition is a lightweight and low friction 1.6 litre petrol engine which produces a healthy 117 hp at 6,000 RPM and 156 Nm of torque which peaks at 4,400 RPM. It is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which drives the power to the front wheels. Combing a very lightweight chassis and powertrain and an aerodynamically designed body makes the Suzuki S-CROSS the most economical crossover in its class by registering a fuel consumption rating of just 17.2km/l. This figures are done under the UNECE R101 New European Driving Cycle (NEDC Cycle).
The Suzuki S-CROSS comes generally equipped that could match any brands on offer here in Malaysia. The Suzuki S-CROSS comes with an exterior that has an integrated roof-rail, 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, self-levelling automatic HID headlamps with LED daytime running lights and fog lamps, a world’s first double-sliding panoramic sunroof. Inside, the Suzuki S-CROSS comes with a multi-information display, cruise control with speed limiter, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, dual-zone air-conditioning, 7.0-inch navigation system with integrated rear-view camera, keyless push-start system and adjustable rear seatbacks.
What the Japanese has been renowned all over is its brilliant packaging by having a vehicle that can look compact on the outside and having a huge cave on the inside and that theme continues on in here with the Suzuki S-CROSS having a cavernous 430-litre boot. This space can be further extended by having the seat backs folded down to a vast 875-litre cargo area with a maximum cabin volume of 1,269 litres in total.
The Suzuki S-CROSS does not skimp on the safety side by having a comprehensive list of safety equipment that consists of 7 airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist and Hill-hold Control and all this is housed inside the chassis which is equipped with Suzuki’s Total Effectiveness Control Technology. This crossover comes in four distinctive colors which are Crystal Lime Metallic, Amethyst Gray Pearl Metallic, Cool White Pearl and Boost Blue Pearl Metallic.
With its status as a CBU unit imported from Hungary and the comprehensive list and performance that the S-CROSS has it is quite startling to hear that the crossover comes with an on the road price without insurance at RM129,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM133,888 for Sabah and RM134,888 for Sarawak. The crossover also is covered by Suzuki Malaysia’s Extended Warranty Program of 5 years or 150,000 km warranty and Suzuki Assist Package which offers 24-hours roadside assistance, lifestyle and concierge arrangements, home assist service and speedy claims approval.
