Published on January 21st, 2015

With the New Year comes new possibilities and Honda Malaysia has taken their first step by announcing today the launch of their newly facelifted compact-SUV, the Honda CR-V. First seen at the 2014 Paris Motorshow, the facelifted Honda CR-V comes here in Malaysia in 3 variants with an addition of a 2WD 2.0 litre on top of the 4WD 2.0 litre and 4WD 2.4 litre available here.

With this addition, it is hoped that Honda Malaysia can further position the Honda CR-V as a market leader in the compact SUV segment.

This facelift comes as a surprise as the CR-V has just been revealed in 2013 in Malaysia.

To further emphasize the addition of the 2.0 litre 2WD model Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno has this to say, ”The SUV segment has shown significant growth over the years and SUV buyers have expanded from the traditional family to single and outgoing adults.

Based on market feedback, we found that there is a bulging demand for 2-wheel-drive SUVs. Reflecting this demand in our line-up, we are implementing the 2.0l 2WD variant for the New CR-V.”

The new 2.0 litre 2WD variant shares the same powertrain as the 2.0l 4WD with a 5-speed automatic transmission which is a SOHC i-Vtec engine churning out 150 bhp with 190 Nm of torque.

The new 2WD powertrain promises to enhance and better the fuel efficiency figures from the 4WD version.

The 2.4 litre 4WD variant is a carryover from the pre-facelift version of the car with the same engine and 5-speed transmission combo.

No Honda Earth Dreams drivetrain is available in this current generation of the Honda CR-V in Malaysia but ECON mode switch button is available across the range to enhance fuel efficiency.

With the new facelifted Honda CR-V, there are more goodies provided in the interior as standard such as Honda’s keyless Smart Entry with Push-Start button, cruise control, an i-Mid Display, multiple charging ports for devices, Bluetooth Hands-free telephone connection, 8-way driver power seats and one-touch folding rear seats available as standard with the 2.4 litre 4WD version getting an additional 7” Display Audio with Navigation System with HDMI connectivity and paddle shifts.

Exterior wise, the Honda CR-V incorporated some noticeable changes with the addition of LED Daytime Running Lights around the front headlights, newly-designed 17-inch wheels and 18-inch wheels in the case of the 2.4 litre and a re-sculptured front grille and bumper to further enhance the CR-V’s presence on the road.

Safety-wise, the new CR-V comes with Honda LaneWatch technology on the 2.4 litre 4WD version, Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist, Emergency Stop Signal, Hill-Start Assist and 6 airbags for the 2.4 litre 4WD version with the 2.0 litre versions getting only 4 airbags.

There are 5 colours to choose from which are Modern Steel Metallic, Taffeta White, Twilight Blue Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl. As usual with any Honda you can have an ala-carte option packages of Modulo kits from Honda which are the Aero Package, Elegant Package for the exterior and the Utility package and Urban Package for the interior starting from RM2,650.

Honda Malaysia also offers a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage and service interval of 10,000km with an addition of free labour service of up to six visits for every alternate paid service until the car reaches 100,000km at all 77 authorized Honda dealerships nationwide.

The new Honda CR-V facelift starts at RM139,800 including insurance for the 2.0litre 2WD and RM150,800 including insurance for the 2.0litre 4WD. The 2.4 litre Honda CR-V arrives at RM169,800 including insurance.
