“Today, we are proud to see Autoworld take another big step by being the first motoring website in Malaysia to host its very own car awards – the CIMB Autoworld Car of the Year Awards 2010. This is no ordinary car awards. The results of these awards, which will be unveiled to you today, were reached by a consensus between scores given by a panel of 12 judges and votes casted online from our readers. As a further reassurance of credibility, the results have been reviewed by none other than renowned audit firm KPMG,” said Datuk Ali.

The judges were led by Autoworld’s five-time Malaysian Rally champion Y.S. Khong.

Y.S. Khong, together with 12 other judges, took the nominated cars to various locations such as Malacca, Penang, Cameron Highlands, Kuantan and Tanjung Tualang. These routes include highway and B-road to thoroughly test these cars for both handling and safety features.

Judges consist of passionate and experienced drivers

The results were taken from the judges and 20% online voting by Autoworld members through a dedicated microsite. After one month voting period in November last year, a total of 80,000 votes were picked up.

“We were shocked ourselves to see how even with only 20% of the scoring decided by the public, they were still able to influence the outcome of results. In fact, this fulfills our initial premise that the outcome of the CIMB Autoworld Car Awards 2010 would be a ‘consensus’ between public opinion and scoring from our judges,” said Jaime Cheng, General Manager of

“This award simply would not be possible without the generous help of our title sponsors CIMB Bank, and also our partners, namely KPMG, Malaysian Automotive Association, and SME Magazine. We also received strong support from our colleagues in other publications, such as,,,, and Fastlane of Singapore,” Jaime added.
